Are you aware that you can change the chord grid for each generation?

This really is a cool feature of RealBand (and I have used it a few times).

I really wish that you could save alternate chord grids that you could then call back up for specific tracks. Those would get saved with the file, so as you are working track to track, you don't have to remember previous changes.

I know I had put that on the wishlist at some point, but it would be a cool feature in that you could then generate multiple tracks (even sections of multiple tracks) simultaneously against different chord grids with one operation.

There is some nice responses describing nice features of RealBand but not many that respnd to the original question, "What daw features does RealBand lack that other daws have?"

The answers so far are: Clunky GUI, VST timing and midi based versus sample based. Are there any other daw features RealBand lacks?

Do you mean having RB share 2 screens all on its own?
Yeah, that would be nice if you could drag a window out of the main frame; keep mixer and tracks windows both visible.

Who knows .. surprising things are coming from PGMusic. As usual.

You can do this if you drag the main RealBand screen across both video monitors. Not exactly what the OP was looking for, but an intermediate workaround;

Yeah, I do that with my other DAWs too.

I personally LOVE Real Band and could not really say what is "missing" beyond what the tech department gradually adds as useful features. I think they are doing a great job with steadily improving it as essentially a free tool that comes with BIAB.

Real Band was never designed to compete with a Sonar or anything like it --that's not what PG Music does, and the costs would be prohibitive, I think, to try and enter the market of high end products with floating screens and titanium colored mixing panels and all the bells and whistles.

What Real Band does extremely well, in my opinion, is GENERATE AUDIO and RECORD AUDIO. In that aspect, it is a beast, and it is my go to workhorse DAW for recording audio. It loads fast, and I never have any spiking issues. I get a good clean solid .wav than I can drag into another DAW (I mix in Sonar.) Also, let's not forget that RB doesn't just generate audio, it also generates midi, and that is HUGE, if you know what to do with it.

I suppose they might work on the mixing board of RB to give you the type of slider and "board feel" you would get with a Sonar, but I am not sure that would be worth their investment.

$99 gets you Sonar Artist, which is pretty darned close to Platinum except you don't get a few of the high end mastering plug ins. But you can substitute your own VSTs.

So, my process is:

A.) I record in RB.

B.) I tweak in Audacity.

C.) I mix and do all effects and EQing per channel and in the master bus in Sonar.

D.) I do a final run in Ozone for the final master.

This all seems to work pretty well, and it is not expensive at all, but seems to be highly effective.

So I personally feel I am living in heaven with all these great tools around me.

Pleasant surprise to see it posted for public consumption tonight.
There are many cool things coming.

This goes against protocol, but certain other members were instrumental in helping push this along. I was more of a 'thorn in the foot'; they really helped in the trenches with testing.. so KUDOS to those who contributed.

This is a HUGE step toward something that has been requested by serious users for a long time. Once again PGMusic pulled through and it is given to us as an 'update' to existing users.
Many companies may have held out until 'upgrade' time (read more $$)

This is the type of thing that makes PGMusic stand out to me.

They figgered it out and are still working with other developers/companies to help define the standard(s) for this feature. They realized there are lots of potential 'holes' in the current system and are contributing to solving this.

/I am NOT a PGMusic employee, so this is just my opinion (not official by any means). Just sharing my experience.
PGMusic rocks.

I don't think I've ever seen PG Music release a program update this late in the season. This year has been full of pleasant surprises but this is truly something special.

Once again PG Music - - - - - - - - - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi David,
I'm curious about your comment "B" that you "tweak in Audacity." Would you mind giving a little more explanation?
Thanks.

Many of us use a similar process....

I write in BB and get the song itself how I want... key, tempo, structure, etc...

I move it to Real Band where I render my tracks as audio waves.

I import them all to Sonar where I mix, and add my live tracks. All my mixing, polishing, and "tweeking" is done in Sonar.

I export the finished Wave and use Wavepad, an audio editor/converter to trim to length as well as set the final wave level and then convert my MP3's from it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
