Hello,

I'm a 2016 UltraPlusPak user. I recently migrated from a Windows computer over to a Mac. I see that the cost to crossgrade to my new computer is $300.

My question is this: would I better better off to wait until the 2017 version is released and take advantage of any special pricing that might be available at that time? I seem to recall that promotional pricing is usually part of the release of a new version?

I realize that the release of a new version is somewhat off in the future, but $300 is not what I anticipated when I moved over to the Mac system (my DAW, Cubase, did not require a charge to crossgrade).

Thanks for any suggestions you have!

While you are waiting you can use WinonX for $5 with BIAB2016Win

www.winonx.com

You can also just purchase the app crossgrade $79 and batch convert all your wma files to m4a.

Hi Mandolin Mike,

When Band-in-a-Box 2017 is released for Mac (sometime in early Spring - indeed a ways away :)) we will have some great special pricing available for the Band-in-a-Box UltraPlusPAK crossgrade upgrade!

While awaiting the release of the Band-in-a-Box 2017 for Mac you may wish to try using Bootcamp. This is something that comes with your Mac that allows you to run Windows programs on your Mac. This might be a good solution so you don't have to be without your Band-in-a-Box!

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-268-6272. Someone on the Sales Team will be happy to assist.

Really?! Ok, now you either know something specifically related to the system the OP is using, or you know something about the Mac that I in my 25+ usage of the platform have never seen (let alone had!) on any of my Macs, ever! confused
Would you care to elaborate on this statement, please?

That means I should have it somewhere! Right, I'll be checking that link and then go dig for my original installation disc, for I swear I've never seen this nifty thing confused

Thanks a lot for the info cool

Thanks for everyone's advice. The Bootcamp option sounds like it "could" work, but the steps to get there are far too technical for an old guy like me. Plus, invariably, the "simple" steps often turns into a computer nightmare, so I guess I'm stuck for awhile. Wish I had not switched computers now...

Bootcamp is just an O/S loader that allows you to install and switch between multiple O/S's on the same machine. You need to make sure you have appropriate hard disk space for the other O/S (Windows) and any apps you wish to run in it, and that you have to have the Windows installation media and license Key to make it work. It's just a way to allow for dual booting the machine. They are not integrated into each other, so you get one or the other (Windows or Mac). If you want access to both, you might want to instead look at something like Parallels for Mac ($79.99), which lets you run both OS's on the same screen.

Hi,

We've found Bootcamp to work much better than Parallels. Bootcamp creates a partition on the Mac's hard drive that you can install Windows to, and when you're on the Windows side it's just like using a normal Windows computer with no extra complications. Everything just works, especially if you never take the Windows side online. Installation is fairly simple.

While I have talked to users running Band-in-a-Box in Parallels successfully, they're running Windows in a virtual machine (two operating systems at once), and often run into weird issues that we simply can't fix for them. For this reason, I can't really recommend it as results can be unpredictable.

Thanks
Kent

Wasn't necessarily recommending Parallels, just presenting options.

With Bootcamp, you have literally turned your Mac into a Windows computer (that you can reboot back into a Mac).

I would try the $5 WinonX option first, that way you have integration like Parallels with your Mac audio apps and Cubase (like drag export from drop box) rather than having to shut down and reboot into Mac, load the files into Cubase then shutdown and back to Win to get another track.
If your Mac will take another drive it would be better rather than partitioning your Mac drive with a pseudo NTFS partition, Mac will read only Win file system and there is an HFS+ driver for Win to read your Mac file system.
You can also boot from a usb 3 drive with Windows on.

Crossgrade option looks good with the new VST/i support

Will have to try https://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridgem/
I don't think there is a PG integrated version for it yet as like Win,
it works in Mac OS X 10.6 to Mac OS X 10.10 only currently. Support for OS X El Capitan (10.11) is being implemented in the jBridgeM v0.94Beta.

Thanks, Everyone!

It was great timing on my initial post and I "jumped" on the sale on Friday. Makes me wonder if I had mentioned my situation a week prior, if I could have "initiated" the sale sooner smile.

Anyways, after downloading all files by Saturday morning, everything seems to be working great - so, thanks again!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
