I'm thinking of purchasing the full version of this software which converts my elec gtr signal to midi notes. The trial version lets me record to ProTools by selecting "Virtual Midi Out" on the Midi Gtr software, and selecting Midi Gtr I as the input on a midi channel in Pro Tools.

But I really want to record midi gtr data directly into BIAB, but cannot figure out the way to set midi parameters on BIAB to get a connection happening. Everything is fine from the the Midi Guitar 2 end - after all ProTools receives it- but even when I turn ProTools off, I still can't see a way of selecting the "virtual" midi output from Midi Gtr 2 to be routed to BIAB's midi input.

Even if you have no experience with Midi Gtr software, could I be missing something obvious with the Midi settings /? (very confusing btw...)

Thanks!

I would search eBay for a Roland guitar pickup and synth it wouldn't be too much more in price and will pick up all the strings and notes at the same time accurately.

Get LoopMidi EDIT:(or use IAC bus on a Mac).
http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html
set it as the Midi Guitar 2 output and the input in Biab or RealBand.

Realband would be easier as you can have more tracks and drop in anywhere.

Posted this a while back but have not used MIDI guitar much since. I was pretty impressed at the time at the all-software solution...

I see you cross posted to here and Recording forum - see my reply there

If he's talking about Jam Origins MIDI Guitar 2 (and I'm 99% sure he is) it is just capable of "polyphonic" note (yes, all 6 strings at once and each string individually set for sensitivity) as any of my hex PUP GK2/3 guitars and connected HW

http://www.jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/

I use Jam Orgins MIDI Guitar 2, and GK2/3 guitars and Roland interfaces, and Fishman's Triple Play, and a YRG - each has strengths and weaknesses (lots of previous posts/discussions on these) .

THE ONLY REAL problem with MG2 is that it requires a PC. I can easily drive my rack synths and keyboard synths with MG2 but I MUST use a PC, same issue with Fishmans TP. there are many times I want to jsut turn on my rack and keyboards and PLAY - I don't want to "mouse it."

If someone wanted to get into using guitar for MIDI at the next to CHEAPEST possible price point it would be Jam Origins MIDI Guitar 2 for $99.95.

The CHEAPEST, and the one you might be thinking of, is the currently FREE SW by MiGiC,

https://migic.com/

While free, it is NOT poly like MG2 or a hex PUP guitar and GI-20, or FTP: it is the one note at a time like a sax, trumpet, you alluded to - but it does track well and I can see where it ALSO can be handy

If you have a Mac but post in the Biab for Windows forum use your IAC bus.

You are better with hardware if you want it accurate.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
