Hi

One of the reasons I bought BB was so I could make backing tracks that I could use at my gigs. I have been using Abersold CD's until now but I would like to have more control over the song length and tempo. Does anyone know where I can find ready made SGU files that I can edit further?

Thanks

Bob Norton sells many "fake discs", which are SGU files that correspond to the songs in many of the most popular fakebooks you can purchase.

Also, there are a lot of free SGU files available on the web. A Google search will help you find them; although, be aware many of the links are old and my not resolve properly.

Over the years, I've downloaded probably 50,000 or so SGU/MGU files (although many are duplicates). Even with the duplicates, I probably have found 20,000 or so unique files on the web.

Also, don't forget that you can load a MIDI file into BIAB and it will usually do a pretty good job of figuring out the chord progression of the song based on the content of the MIDI file.

Plus you can use the Audio Chord Wizard feature in Band-in-a-Box or RealBand to help you figure out the chord structure and tempo of a song.

Yahoo's ++ Band-in-a-Box ++ group has two auxiliary groups with song file archives.

Some problems with using a downloaded song file is you don't know how old the file is, what recording the author used as a guide, how well the song file adheres to ANY recording or how capable of creating a pleasing song file the song file author is.

Hi Oceanpaddler.

I did a blog post about making my own backtracks with BIAB a while back.

Here is the link
6 simple steps to make cool backing tracks with Band-in-a-Box

I use these all the time for my live gigs. It is very simple and also rewarding making your own tracks and being able to change things that do not suit you and once you are in the swing of it, it does not take very long at all.

Welcome to the forum. You mentioned Abersold. What styles of jazz interest you?

Being a web guy, I can still find Allanah's site (sort of).
Not sure how many of the files are actually there and good ... try right-click and 'save link as' on the song files listed. I know the "'a'songs" list download matched the file says Allanah said it was.

Norton Music Fake Disks feature many thousands of songs in BiaB format and they can be found here:

I also have a page describing how I make backing tracks with the help of BiaB and how I use them on stage. It's free advice, use what applies to your situation and feel free to ignore anything that doesn't

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
