Thanks Mike...glad you liked it. You should have heard the tone of that song played with the Fender '62 Jaguar. WOW...very Ventures, Beach Boys sounding. And totally cool. I just chose the Tele because it sounded more like Knopfler and Duane to me. But sound is so subjective. Others may have liked a different guitar sound. I probably should have played several different guitars on the song to break up the tonal monotony of the song. Instrumentals can get tedious if you have to listen to the same sound all the way through.

Bob,

I asked the question wrong, and do agree with your response, regarding this forum.

Meant to have question directed at Taxi.com.

The same answer probably still applies. Music on my CD is primarily background
music. Meant to be that way. After getting over $$$$ bump(just bought repair parts,
for old Vista system and Also a new PC.), would think about the folks your dealing with.

Thanks

OH! OK...yea, I've submitted as many as three songs for the same TAXI listing, which is the maximum. Once I had two songs forwarded for the same song, to music execs by TAXI. The odds against that happening are astronomical. Haha. The stars must have aligned or something. The cost for joining TAXI is $300 initially and $199 yearly renewal. For that you get access to all listings, online storage of your MP3 songs to be used for submissions, and a bio page. The fee for submitting a song to a listing is only $5 per song per listing, so usually a max of $15 on any listing. Writing music for "spec" like this can be very lucrative, but it's not the most creative approach to writing, unless you like people telling you what to write. Add to that the unlikely chance of having a song forwarded ( the competition is absolutely fierce ) and it may not be your cup of tea. But if you're thick-skinned, patient, and of course, talented, you might hit a big payday. If you get just ONE song placed in a mainstream movie you could retire. BTW...you can view the current listings by going to TAXI.com and clicking on "Industry Listings" but only members can actually submit.

Sorry I misunderstoond your original question,

Bob

Here's a current listing I just received for an instrumental song from TAXI.com. This is the kind of listing that's great for BIAB users. Notice the requirements for the length of song, the style they're looking for, and particularly the BIG PAYDAY!! Could be a good one for someone who can and wants to create music in that style.

MAJOR N.Y. AD AGENCY needs UPTEMPO INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTALS for a TV commercial for a TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY set to air during the OLYMPICS. Quoting the agency rep, "We're looking for INSTRUMENTALS that BUILD nicely into a ROCKIN' and CELEBRATORY sound. THE RACONTEURS and KINGS OF LEON are good examples. We're NOT looking off-the-map quirky stuff. Since this will air during the Olympics, it should have a FUN and UPBEAT sound without sounding too emotional or inspirational." Your INSTRUMENTAL must be a minimum of 2 minutes long. Instrumentation and performance MUST sound TOP-NOTCH, CURRENT, and CONTEMPORARY. Instrumentation must sound NATURAL and AUTHENTIC. It's IMPORTANT that your SONG sounds like an ARTIST/BAND and NOT like a production music library track. Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). As always, do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artist or their songs in any way, shape, or form! NO SAMPLES of other songs or artists can be incorporated into your track. The estimated fee for this license will be $15,000-20,000 total. If you ARE chosen, the Ad Agency will contact you DIRECTLY. Please submit ONE to THREE INSTRUMENTALS online.

Richard...boy, you got THAT right. Knopfler carries his tone around in his hands...literally. I play 5-string banjo, and some people put a lot of stock in the sound of vintage banjos, more specifically like the 1928 Gibson Granada that Earl Scruggs played. However, one writer noted that any banjo Earl Scruggs played would sound like a '28 Granada!! Guess I better get to practicing, eh?

Thanks for listening,
Bob

I've got a friend in New Orleans who plays a custom (I think) Telecaster--humbucker in the bridge position. He has an absolutely unique sound, both chordally and timbrally.

One time we were playing together and he offered to let me play his axe. "Oh boy," I thought. "Now I can have that sound in my own hands." NOT. I still sounded like me and the guitar sounded like just a guitar. But in his hands it is a beautiful thing. Profoundly humbling experience.

I played a wedding once for a co-worker with my band at the time. The groom asked if a friend of his could sit in. I said sure and setup a Twin amp, no effects, and a standard Stratocaster for the groom's friend. The friend turned out to be slide master, Sonny Landreth (John Hyatt, Jimmy Buffett, etc). The sounds he got out of that simple setup were so incredible (and distracting) it was hard to concentrate on performing. It wasn't the first time I had met Sonny, but it was the first time I played with him. Made me want to break my fingers and burn my guitars.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
