With tips from this forum for compression and vocal recording instruments, I redid this song. I'm awfully happy with it. The fiddle might be a little oppressive, but I like it I guess, it's a little uneven through the song and I like that, gives it a little validity.

Thank you all for all your (endless) patience and help.

163 bpm (I don't know why I went this high. I think I had a little trouble finding the instruments I wanted in the 80 bpm range. I cut some instruments back by half, so worked out great.) C#

2479 Bass Acoustic Held Ev110
1616 Tuba (I know, right? Not an expected instrument, but...you know...) DixielandFast SW 165
RD NashvilleEven8^1
2170 Resonator Solo 165
616 Mandolin Rhy Bouncy SW 165
1871 Fiddle Solo SW165
Trombone - I don't recall the #. Not a normal instrument, but I like the surprise.

Andy,

This version does sound much clearer and your vocals stand out ( your resonant voice reminds me of the great Canadian folksinger
Stan Rogers).
Yes, that fiddle is distracting at times to these ears, but the dobro is perfect.
I hope you didn`t give up the "live recording" idea as its a really interesting challenge and worth another go.

Robert, that is about the nicest thing someone could say to me. I'd received the Stan Roger comment before, and what an honor. I didn't even know who he was at the time, and there are not many live videos of him, but all of them are so fierce and powerful. I don't know, but I hope Canada has accepted his son as Mr. Roger's torchbearer. Just fantastic.

Thanks for the verification on the fiddle. I was driving to a gig and back last night and listened to it and others, with fresh ears and different sound system. I'm going to dial that fiddle down, and make a decision at the end, either the trombone or the steel string, but not both. I just need to regenerate each; they wouldn't carry the whole outro as-is.

Also great to have your take on the live version. I'm going to massage it, recut vocs, compress, etc. and get it more leveled. (All new skills.) It's good to hear you didn't think it was a total "meh."

Happy Sunday, Robert!

Toe-tappin' from the start to the end.

You've told a great story. The fiddle filled in nicely, I didn't think there was anything unusual about it.

Good one.

Thank you, Scott. It's one I've always liked. Playing it solo-acoustic guitar, it's a different deal completely, but I've always wanted to hear it, and any of mine, widened.

This whole BIAB trip has opened my guitar playing up so much. All things being relative and Tommy Emmanuel's throne is not threatened, and I don't play much on these recordings, but when I am playing otherwise, I hear different options, and freaky chords, and notes to play. Key changes. Last night some musician friends came to hear me that I haven't seen in a year and separately, each commented on my playing, kinda WTF moments.

I got BIAB Feb 2016. It's changed me so much.

Andy,

This is terrific to listen to. As Videotrack said, "Toe tappin' from start to end"! Very enjoyable.

All the best,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
