Just download 2017 BIAB (Build 3.1.8) & RB(Build 1)
In Real Band: Every time I attempt to "generate" in any way, the program immediately locks up and requires a Ctrl/Alt/Delete shutdown. After that, restarting the program displays a warning that the program had crashed. I click "no" to the question for resetting to defaults (never do it). The program then runs AOK until the moment I attempt to generate again - lockup/crash.
First bug(s)? See more below.
Don
Another problem found: When trying to select a style, the program locks/crashes as described above. Also: Previously created SEQ files cannot be opened, probably because the styles cannot be located.
Note: I tried a system restore and did another download of BIAB & RB - same problems.

have you tried ALT-TAB to see if there is a hidden dialog waiting for input?

Hi Pat,
I understand your question; I haven't tried that, though I don't think it should be necessary. For now, I've reverted back to 2016. If no one else reports this problem, I'll try your suggestion tomorrow (after another download).
Thanks for the suggestion.

Back again (Don) . . .
After a system restore, I repeated the 2017 BIAB/RB download. BIAB seems AOK. Real Band is no go; it will not open existing SEQ files, freezes up/crashes when any attempt is made to either generate or select a style. Alt tab does not reveal any way out.
I did another restore and resorted back to 2016. I'll wait for the hard drive delivery and see if it makes any difference. All worked perfectly with 2016, all updates.

Don,
You should probably contact support on this. Not everybody is having that problem and they may be able to uncover why your system is not running RB the same as everybody else's.
Every year when I upgrade, my first several rounds of problems usually end up being caused by differences in my system. Once I identify them and fix them, its smooth sailing.
Until the reason why your system is behaving differently than everybody else's is identified, reloading from the hard drive probably won't change anything either.

Downloaded on another computer, same exact problem. A window pops up: .........................................................................
bbw2.exe - System Error
The program can't start because dllelastiquePro.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
.........................................................................
BIAB seems okay, just no go with Real Band.
I'll wait until Monday to call support if there's no patch fix before then. Since this is a new release, I presume PG support is on the lookout.
Don

Don,
As an experiment...
Try right-clicking on the shortcut you use to start the program and select "Run as administrator". Does that help?

Hi Noel,
I tried your suggestion on both machines, same result, lockup & crash. I still got the message shown earlier. I'm going to put it to rest for the weekend. I've put both systems back to 2016 in order to make music.

Hi Don, I've encountered a similar related problem.
When I first open RealBand if I attempt to open a BIAB file or a Seq. file I get the message "Initializing Accompaniment Functons ... please wait" but then nothing happens. The program freezes and the top bar and menu bar are greyed out. Alt-TAB doesn't reveal any hidden dialog box and I have to use Task Manager to halt the program.
However, I found that if, when I first open RealBand I click to open the StylePicker I get the same message but shortly afterwards the Stylepicker opens. I select any style (it doesn't matter which). I am then able to open the BIAB and Seq. files that wouldn't open previously.
I have the same settings in Realband 2017 as I have in Realband 2016 but everything works as it should in 2016.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Richard Williams Sydney Australia

Is dllelastiquePro.dll present in your RealBand\data folder?
If not, then maybe copy it from the data folder of a RB 2016 install, or maybe copy it from the RealBand folder to the data folder.
Thanks,

Hi Richard,
Thanks for verifying the problem.
Jeff,
I took 2017 off my computers and will wait for a fix-it patch before reinstall.

Tried doing a fresh install of RB 2017, but dllelastiquePro.dll was installed to the data folder, and wasn't able to duplicate any issues with BBW2 not working.

Thanks Jeff, I looked in my Realband\Data folder and found a version of dllelastiquePro.dll - 428kB and dated 29 April 2010.
However, installed in my Realband main folder was another version dated 19 January 2016 of 1,211 kB as well as dllelastiquePro3 dated 4 October 2016. I copied these to the Data folder, after renaming the old file, and the problem I was having opening BIAB and SEQ. files has been fixed.
It looks as though the installation program is putting these files in the wrong folder.
Regards,

just out of curiosity RWIlliams and DonMusic... what operating system are you running? It has been my experience with other software that different operating systems interpret environment variables used in installation programs differently.
Win 10 here, and after reading this I checked my system.
dllElastiquePro3.dll was in the Realband folder, not in the RealBand/Data folder. Is that significant?
Jeff, you may recall that during testing I was complaining about a long delay even after the yellow "Initializing Accompaniment Functions" message disappeared. After copying dllElastiquPro3.dll to the DATA folder, that extra delay is gone. The style picker is now starting up pretty much as soon as the yellow box closes.

As long as you have either or (better have both) of these files in the data folder, you would be fine. They are also needed In the RealBand folder, so don't remove them from that, just copy to your RealBand\Data folder.
dllElastiquePro3.dll dllElastiquePro.dll
DonMusic message is that he likely doesn't have either file in his data folder.

My OS is Windows 10, new super fast computer, solid state drive.
So . . . is there a patch coming soon? We shouldn't have to move product files around to make the program work.

Today I did what Peter Gannon suggested and it worked, problem solved.
I copied these files to the data folder: dllElastiquePro3.dll dllElastiquePro.dll
Thanks to Peter and everyone else who chipped in to help. It's much appreciated. Perhaps this thread will help someone else (before a patch fix?).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
