While recording piano from my Juno Synth, every so often it seems if I hit the keys a little too hard I get tremendous static that reds out the volume meter. It's not my patch chords - I have checked them. I have reset the synth to factory defaults. Tried turning down the volume on the synth. Any other suggestions?
Thanks - Bernie

Do you hear the same thing in headphones plugged directly to the synth?

When directly plugged in, no. However, today I got the same static from all of my midi notes when just in playback mode. I adjusted the master volume in PT down from full to about 7/8, and that seems to have fixed the problem! We'll see....

Problem still there. Maybe it has something to do with my audio setup. My audio drivers are ASIO and run through my POD device. Not sure what is causing the static in midi tracks only. in playback and record modes. Not all the time either! Never had this problem before last week.
Any suggestions on how to isolate the problem greatly appreciated. It is putting a major cramp in my recording sessions! Bernie

If it is only while playing/inputting MIDI in real time I'd check the the options for Enable Input Monitoring .. just a first guess. Maybe the Allow IM effects recording option directly below.

Otherwise I'd suspect a new effect being used.

I tried those - no luck. But now something very interesting has happened. A few bars after I end, the very first 20 or so bars from the very beginning of the same track play back! These is nothing showing in the tracks or notation Windows. Maybe the track is corrupted. I hope there is a way to save it as I have about 30 hours of work on that track alone. Any help appreciated! First thing I'd do is copy what I want from the bad track to another track.
Mute the original.
Play and see if the same issue exists.

If so, I'd also open the Sysex window for the track and make sure nothing weird is happening there that is affecting the synth.
Maybe even review the Event List ..

Weird things happen.
How many MIDI channels are on the offending track?

Are you *sure* it is that track causing the issue? (Solo it and be sure).
Possibly another duplicate track is hiding somewhere ..

Lately I have been getting a blue screen error that says "bad pool header" then a Windows shutdown. I am launching PT by rt licking and running as administrator . Now when I launch PT it asks if I want to load in default mode because of the last shutdown, I say yes. After it loads, when I get to the screen to set up midi and I chose my Juno device midi drivers, it goes to blue screen again

I copied only the section of the track that has midi notation on it to a new track. When I solo that track, it still has the distortion and again plays about the first 20 bars to a totally different track. I'm going to try a clean PTW Iinstall and see if that corrects the problem.

Weird.
About half way into the midi track I am having issues with, it changes key. I looked in the notation window and didn't see anything that would indicate a key change!
Also, I copied just the beginning part of the midi track I am having issues with to a new track. Plays fine, but at the end of this cut portion, starts playing the first 20 bars from a totally different track again! Any ideas of what might be causing this? Should I send the track to PG Music support to look at?
Thanks - Bernie

MIDI channels?
Check Event List for tracks using the same MIDI channel.

Are you sure the test track(s) are what is creating the 'phantom' sound?
Or is it possible some other track (using the same MIDI channel) is causing the issue?
Does the VU for the new test track show signal when the 'weird' section happens?

Nothing in the Sysex window. It appears all midi is using channel 0.
When I solo the offending track, the phantom notes from the other track do show up in the vu meter as I am playing it.
I saved the offending track to a wav file by right clicking on it. When I play it, the phantom notes from the other track do play.
What now? Thanks!

Copied the section of the track that has changed key on its own to a new track. Clicked on the new track key button to change key. In the exclude tracks window, I entered the old tracks to exclude. After it is processed, it changes those tracks I chose to exclude and changes their key also. I chose change midi tracks only, and had no audio tracks made during th midi track recording. What is going on here?!?! Also, phantom notes showing up in this new track also.

Do you have a way to post the file (drop box or such) so others may look at it?

Something strange is happening .. the Event List window may show clues.
Everything using channel 0 is not good, for starters ..

HI - I loaded the file and there are 2 midi tracks in it, along with audio tracks. I changed the track I am having problems with to a different channel. No change in the problems. I was not aware - should each midi track have it's own channel? Does this have to be done at the initial recording of the track?
Also, I made a new post asking for help and uploaded the .seq track to Dropbox, along with sending a copy of the track to support.
Any help appreciated!

Many times different MIDI tracks should have their own channel, but if only two tracks of MIDI, it may not be an issue.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
