Just reinstalled BIAB 2011.5 on my new laptop (win 10 Home). I've use Kontakt 5 and other plugins regularly with BIAB.
I immediately noticed that when I click the Plugin or Vsti Synth buttons I'm not getting the window that shows the Multiple Instruments like I used to. I'm only seeing a window that says: " VST/DirectX Instruments/Plugins " only two tabs synth track & audio track. No list of instruments on left side of window like before.
Help.... lol
Thanks In Advance Guys!

Since the problem is due to a new installation of BIAB 2011.5 on a Windows 10 computer, here are some things that I'd try...
1. Make sure that you have the latest build for BIAB 2011.5 installed. This is found at the below link. It looks as though the last update for the 2011.5 version of the program was build #329. (If you haven't yet installed this, download it and run the update. When the update installation gives the program paths, double-check that they are correct.)
2. Under your midi driver set up (Options | Prefs | MIDI Driver), make sure that you have a VST/DXi synth installed. To do this, have a look at the image below that I've labelled "VST/DXi synth set up"...
Select Microsoft GS Wavetable synth (#1).
Make sure that the VST/DXi checkboxes (#2) are active.
Select a softsynth (#3). I have the old Roland VSC DXi synth selected on the image. You choices will probably be different (Maybe Coyote Forte DXi, Coyote WT, etc.)
3. When I had a close look at the two images you posted, I noticed that the Windows 10 installation has scroll bars (see second image below). This is a Windows thing. If you use these scroll bars, are the missing options revealed? If so, it might be possible to resize the VST/DXi window.
Thanks for your in detail response Noel. I did everything you recommended, but still a no go. The scroll bars you referenced were hiding the ForteDXI table/patches

Here ya go. I did one of what I see immediately after going into midi/audio set up, (bottom photo)
and then the screen I get when I clicked on your #3. ( top photo )
Thanks

Here is what I used to have: ( notice the green square says: VST/DX Synth Plugins ) verses what I'm seeing now ( VST/DirectX Instruments/Plugins ) two totally different titles.....
Thanks

This is indeed perplexing because, as you say, you don't have the option of assigning synths to the Piano, Bass, Guitar, etc., tracks.
When BIAB stops doing what it usually does, I nearly always interpret that as a sign that a factory reset is worth considering.
With this in mind, I suggest the following (this is ultimate form of factory reset)...
1. Close BIAB
2. Go to the \bb folder and rename "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" to something like "intrface.bbw.old" and "mysetup.dk.old". (NOTE the spelling of 'intrface.bbw', there's no 'e'.)
3. Restart BIAB.
4. Renaming the above effectively removes them from BIAB's gaze and forces the program to create new files.
5. After the above, you'll need to set your midi and audio drivers up again. This includes setting the VST/DXi driver.
Noel, I've done that and it installs Kontakt or whatever but it plays over all tracks..... not the separate tracks as before. Let's say I install Kontakt Acoustic Piano. All tracks play the Kontakt plugin.... bass = piano, piano = piano, guitar = piano, melody = piano.....
understand ?

One more shot. You have to install a GM synth in the "default"/ first slot. Otherwise all midi tracks will play the same Kontakt sound. In current BIAB you can assign individual Kontakt sounds to each of the individual instruments to supersede individual sounds. You say it used to work?
Ok, I'm back. Did the renaming the files above that Noel recommended. Still no go. Also, I have the GM Synth in "default" block.
Yes Musicstudent ,this was no problem in windows 7. I regularly used multiple vst back then. I'm starting to think that maybe I had BIAB 2012.5 instead of 2011.5. Would this make a difference?
Is there a way to find out if and when/ what version of BIAB went to supporting multiple vst / on different tracks/channels ?
Thanks Guys

I've just had a look back through past manuals and upgrade manuals.
The top image below is taken from the 2011.5 manual. How I interpret it is that it shows that a VST/DXi synth can only be added as a one-off instance. It's not possible to add softsynths to each track.
The lower image below shows the VST/DXi synth setup that first appeared in the BIAB 2012 upgrade manual. This suggests that the ability to add to synth to individual BIAB tracks was first available in version 2012.
When considering this information in light of all the above posts, it seems as if you have been using at least BIAB 2012 on your other computer. (That's the only way I can make sense of all that's been discussed.)
I believe you are absolutely right Noel. I do believe now that I had upgraded from 2011.5 to 2012.5 back then.
wow..... Just checked my email and Mathew @ PG Music has made available to me again my upgrades that I had before that took me up to 2012.5.
THANKS MATHEW,NOEL & Musicstudent for all your help.
Sorry for wasting all of your brain power and precious time on this wild goose chase of mine.
At least we learned that BIAB didn't support multiple vst plugins until version 2012.5.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
