Hi Everyone,

I am new to Real Band. I have version 2017 (1). I just installed it, but I am having a tech problem. I get an error message saying: Error Starting ASIO driver, If problem persists try rebootting windows.

I have tried, but the error keeps persisting. Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Which ASIO driver are you trying to use?

Are you certain it is installed correctly?

Which device is using this driver?

Screenshots of driver setup windows help as well.

Yes, more info helps.

It may be that some other app is already using the ASIO driver, which is why RB gets an 'error starting ASIO' (many times ASIO can only be used by one app at a time)

...thanks for your help.

I closed the other programs I had opened, and I get the same error message in RealBand.

I took a screen shot of my drivers, but I can't seem to find a way to upload them to the forum!

I'm feeling like quite a disaster!

Any recommendations?

Thanks a million.

Click the Reply button at the bottom of this post.
Scroll down a little and look for 'File Manager' (under the big white box for your reply).

This lets you attach an image to your post. It will appear at the bottom of the post, like this example.

....I'm sorry, but I don't see the file manager. To the left under the reply box I see Post Options:

HTML is disabled.
UBBCode is enabled

And directly under the reply box I see:
a checkbox Add this thread to my Watched Topics
A checkbox (which is checked) Add my signature to this post

Scrolling down a little more I see the submit and the preview buttons

Continuing to scroll down, I see the last reply from the thread.

I'll be darned, but I'm going from bad to worse!

Should I just shoot myself!?!?!

Beside Post Options (in the same row) is File Manager. It's not big and noticeable, but it is there.
Directly under the Post Box, right above 'Add this Thread' you mention above
.. unless you have some kind of browser restriction running .. are you running NoScript or anything?

/I should have added image sooner/

DS Jake,

In relation to posting graphics....

It sounds like you might be stuck at the 'Quick Reply' window. If that's the case, click on the "Switch to full reply screen" button that I've highlighted on the image below.

...got it!!! Thanks for showing me how to do that!

I uploaded screenshots to the file manager. When I preview my post, I don't see the screen shots in the message body although I added the files?!?!

I hope folks can see them when I hit Submit.

Am I missing an ASIO driver?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone.

The graphics are great. These show your Windows set up well.

What would be really good to have would be the preferences setup in Realband (RB).

1. To do this follow #1, #2, #3 on the below image.

2. Click on the button I've labelled #4 and select ASIO.

3. If the ASIO window (#6, #7) doesn't appear, click on #5 (Drivers).

4. Take a screen shot of your ASIO driver window (#6, #7) and post it so that we can see what ASIO drivers are present on your system.

In addition, I suggest that you download and install ASIO4ALL from the below link. Realband works well with this freeware driver and it would be a good starting place to get everything up and running.

Lastly, Realband 2017 is now up to build 3. (I noticed that you mention build 1.) Go to the below link, download build 3 and install it manually.

Regards,
Noel

...got it! I installed the ASIO driver that you recommended and now when I open Real band, I don't get the error message.

Perhaps that's fixed?!?!

I recorded my voice and that works fine. But when I program chords and hit play, nothing happens. The bar marker does not advance through the chords and I can't hear anything. I have a style assigned, but there is no output. The output meter doesn't move.

Could it be a midi issue? When I check the midi output I see that I have two options available but neither is currently selected. When I try to select either one, I get an error message saying that they may be in use by another program, but I don't have another program open!

Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Thanks... the graphic helped.

Image 1 below is my midi setup. I suggest that you set yours up similarly.

1. Move Microsoft GS Wavetable to the top (#1).

2. Activate the Coyote WT DXi/VSTi. (This should have installed when you installed BIAB. If it didn't, there is an option under "BIAB | Help | Utilities" to install it. See Image 2 below.)

3. Activate the VSTi/DXi Coyote WT soft synth (#3).

This next post is how to test if you have midi working....

1. Select "Styles | Stylepicker" as shown on the image below.

2. Scroll down the list until you get to some styles that do not begin with _ or = or M_

3. Select the style (I've chosen Brandy).

4. Click on "Load song demo" (#4) - this will load a demo chord progression, and probably a melody, for the given style.

5. Select OK to exit.

When you return to RB, the song should generate and play.

Let us know how you went.

....ok. I got some things working at least.

1. I followed your Midi instructions, and changed my set up to be like yours, but I still get an error message when I try and select the midi device by clicking OK in that selection window. (Although I did move the Wavetable Synth to the top and select Coyote) Once I had to accept the midi error message, the Wavetable Synth went back to the botton of this list, but Coyote stayed selected!

2. The Brandy song loads and plays

3. But when I type my own chords in to RB, nothing happens. The program doesn't play, no sound comes out and the chord cursor do not advance through the chord progression. Kind of weird, isn't it?

After you've typed in the chords and selected a style, have you been using the "Generate" then "Generate all BB tracks" as shown on the image below to get the file playing? (The green arrow is to 'play' not 'generate and play'.)

Also, if midi is playing without having Microsoft GS Wavetable at the top of the driver list, that's fine.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
