Hello,

PG music has been emailing me lots during the last 4 weeks to upgrade to BIAB 2017. I have taken the Xmas break to have a look at the site, forum posts and content of 2017 to see if I should upgrade

Several things I noticed.

1. BIAB is not 64 bit and Dr Gannon shut down all the usual suspects by pointing out with jbridge it can handle vsti's with >4 GB sample memory. A different set of usual suspects came out to endorse his view.

2. I am grateful for BIAB being able to load 64 bit Vsti's but >4 Gbg 64 bit vsti's are elite instruments and they need a suite of controllers to bring out their magic. In my view the midi interface in biab and realtracks is MSDOS and unable to communicate in other than a basic way with these elite instruments.

If you have Logic, Cubase or Ableton Live you will know the attention that has been taken to provide expressive communication with Vsti's. And you are not thinking DAW - you are thinking of just one track at a time.

I am not asking BIAB to become a DAW. Rather I request it has a full set of tools to communicate with its standard 5 instrument channels, particularly if we choose to put 64 bit instruments in each slot; preferably 64 bit for I no longer have any interesting or useful 32 bit Vsti's or DAW software.

32 bit BIAB has become an in between that I forget until I get reminded at Xmas I have a PG account.

So with this in mind I will pass for now on upgrading.

have a Great New Year

Neil1000,

Thank you for taking time to share your viewpoint with us. I'm sure you are taking the action that you believe is best for you.

You did not mention what version of Band-in-a-Box you presently use. That information would help other forum members highlight features that have been upgraded or added since you purchased Band-in-a-Box that are indispensable in their daily use of Band-in-a-Box.

You also did not mention how you use your current version of Band-in-a-Box. The program has become as feature laden as a swiss knife. You're missing out on a lot.

Many forum users have a DAW in their musical toolbox because Band-in-a-Box is not a DAW and does not pretend to be a DAW. Band-in-a-Box is a music accompaniment program. It is very strong in providing practice, accompaniment and song building tools. Just as I would not expect the drawing tools in Microsoft Office to be as strong as CorelDraw we do not expect Band-in-a-Box to have the same tools as ProTools.

I would enjoy learning more about "expressive communication". What is that?

I have a complaint -- I ordered the 2017 version this morning and it hasn't arrived yet (and I am too lazy to download it).

The drone we dispatched seems to be stuck in a snow bank ... we are looking it into it.

Have Fun!

Hello Peter

Leave the drone where it is. Kemmerich will not miss the content. 2014 will do just fine!

Fingers crossed you have the 64 bit version when I revisit next Dec

Love your humour

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
