Hello

I am trying to find out how to post a song.

Does the song have to be country like old style or can I post modern stuff.

I have listened to a lot of the songs posted in fact a lot...

no offence but it seems like a time warp.

just don't want to offend anyone so just checking l.o.l.

Joe,

The main criteria for posting songs are...

1. The work must either be your own original work or in the public domain. (Copyrighted songs are not permitted unless you hold a licence to record and publish them.)

2. All styles are welcome in the Users Showcase forum, modern or not-so modern.

I look forward to hearing your work.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Joe,

Yeah, I've written a few songs. If you're interested in hearing one of more of them, they can be found via the "Audios on Soundcloud" link in my signature at the end of this post.

Thanks for asking!

All the best,
Noel

P.S. The songs are all created with BIAB/RB.

I have already enjoyed your music ..yes the songs you've posted.

But not everyone ..on here has even got close to my meagre expectations..so I will go ..the thing is the way this forum is going it will bury b.i.a.b. because there is no new input ..coming ..the the software is trying ..but the forum is dying. My Regards Noel you know what I am saying ..absolutely ..unforgivable to new members ..so go on shoot me pg music and then shoot yourself pg sadly you have an expiry date ..and its looming if you don't take action soon ..you need a new clientele .,.,.and your forum needs to accept that ..or else ..you are history ..you need young blood..so go and banish me to the end of your earth.. I don't give a .....

I would just add,

3. BIAB or other PG products should be used in the song.

You are not wrong in that observation! smile When I was first considering BIAB a few years ago I was put off by the prominence of what I view as old music...lots of jazz and lots of old country seemed to dominate the showcase. And even today the amount of older styles in the RealStyles is not really what one would expect to see in a modern product (unless it is specifically targetted as a classic genre product). I mean, classic surf tracks for 2017???

One reason for this is probably how many older musicians use BIAB. And while there have been real improvements lately, one look at the GUI tells you this ain't your grandkid's DAW! I have no idea what the demographics for BIAB are overall but I don't think I am wrong to note this forum group tends to be more "seasoned citizens"!

With that all said I would LOVE to hear some modern music show up in the showcase! I believe it is possible to create with BIAB and I bet lots of folks around here would love to hear what you are coming up with!!

Oh Yes!! Absolutely, JohnJohnJohn!! Not your thin midi stuff but some great RTs (Brent Mason on guitar for example)in BB now that are Brill to use in Surf. I'm a Brit so this is not my "Birth Music" lol but I'm loving it. Having been to Australia this year and found the Surf Rock scene to be VERY vibrant, these tracks are just what I needed. Horses for courses, I guess.
Cheers

JJJ, FWIW I wouldn't use the User Showcase as the measuring stick.
The top 3 posters here on the forum are Mac, myself and Matt. Not likely to find much from any of us in the User Showcase unless it was done 'just for fun'.

An example of a seasoned pro and long time BiaB user:

he's a big time guy, as was limey .. but I can't find any sign of limey on the forums now.:(

Many cool things have been done in PGMusic software that can't be shared.
I know I can't post things I've done in RB that I'd love to share, but I can't.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

/Harvey appears to have been online here in the forums recently, so for that I am thankful. Glad he's still around.

I still love the part on his page linked above .. "and many other famous dead people" .. sadly I can relate, though I'll always be 12 years(or so) behind him .

Oh, I quite agree with you! The surf tracks are outstanding. But the OP was addressing the dated feel to some of the music created with BIAB and I just used that as an example. If you are creating old surf music or retro surf music these probably work beautifully!

Yeah I was kinda responding to the OP's assessment after he looked at the showcase. I understand why some folks do not post their work here but it would sure be great to hear some modern music that was created with BIAB! I can see it is quite easy to build a backing track for a 70s era rock song or a classic bluegrass tune...BIAB just totally excels at this! But more modern music does not seem to be so easy with BIAB.

I looked at the Harvey Gerst website you linked but found no mention of BIAB or anything like that...it seemed like a strictly traditional small recording studio.

))) But more modern music does not seem to be so easy with BIAB

It isn't clear from your posts if you've tried to make "modern music" with BIAB or not. There are lots of styles of modern music, so you'd need to let us know what specific style and artist you are talking about. BIAB has hip hop, soul, techno, dubstep, as well as the timeless styles like pop ballad that are also modern. But I'm guessing you have something different in mind.

Have Fun!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
