I have right-clicked the bar maker and unchecked the option "Allow drum fill for bar before this part marker" BUT STILL I'm getting drum fills at the part marker changes from substyle A to B, and from substyle B back to A.

So I edited the style (both A and B substyles) to make the fills a copy of the regular part of the style, and set the pattern weight to 9. This made the "fill" sound just like the main substyle, BUT there's still an added cymbal crash at the transition from substyle B back to A, no matter what I do.

So I'm still getting fills at style changes even though I've specifically disabled them at the transition bars (and those around it too!)

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

BIAB for Windows version 2016 (438)

Thanks!

Just ruling out normal stuff first:

Did you regenerate the song?
Is the drum track frozen? If so, unfreeze it.
Do you have the most recent update of BIAB?

Thanks for the suggestions. I just checked... yes I have the latest version.
Nothing is frozen, and have regenerated the song (a lot!).

OK, thanks. I haven't used this function since it was first introduced, and it worked for me in testing, but there have been many changes to the program since (and I'm using 2017).

Still, can we try to replicate this? I assume we're talking about RealDrums, not MIDI. Can you tell us which RealDrum? Even better, post your song. One way some of us do this is open a free Dropbox account, upload the song to the public area, and post the link here.

Your 'simple' is an excellent workaround if it is for the whole song, but I am also still interested in the original problem. That should be working.

I'm using MIDI drums, not RealDrums. Is that a requirement? I don't know if I have a RealDrums choice that will suit the tempo, but I'll look.

Thanks!

Update:

Switching to RealDrums does not fix the problem. Unchecking "Allow drum fills for bars before this part marker" does not eliminate drum fills, whether I use RealDrums or MIDI drums.

If I wanted to remove all drum fills for the entire song, then Pipeline's suggestion (above) works.

Try one more thing please. Do a Return to Factory Settings and test again. You will first have an opportunity to save any custom settings you have made.

I've uploaded a song to Dropbox that demonstrate the problem. Here is the link to the song and its style:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tt0zlh49w5f04zr/AACCeZpf0--IqSf5HeVt1KYna?dl=0

I've unchecked the 'Allow fills...' at and around the bar markers, but it makes no difference. I get fills anyway.

Thanks for the help!

Returning to Factory Settings didn't change the behavior. Good thing to try though.

This feature don't work for MIDI Drums !
I have written a post in the wishlist a long time ago with no effect up to now.
That is a real shame because it is a very handy, useful and musical feature and we can't get it !

I'm glad to see that new BIAB users have legitimate questions about so useful features. MIDI is still used by many users and we need to get new features for MIDI.

If you want delete the crash cymbal after part marker change, you have to edit the postfill pattern and NOT the fill pattern.

If you have to use midi drums,
-open the piano roll
-select D
-select the note on the keyboard, this will select all opening hi-hat post fill notes in red
-now hit delete

you can also copy/paste/delete others manually then freeze.

My conclusion is that this is another bug in the program... it may have worked in previous builds but is broken in this latest version 2016-438.

How good is the support from the factory? Are bug fixes for past-year's versions released?

I'm just wondering, what should I expect?

Thanks!

Six-Rabbits -

Unfortunately, once a new version of BIAB comes out (now 2017), you will not see any additional updates to previous years' versions.

Thanks John,

That's disappointing, but not surprising. I suspect all the resources go to the latest version of the program. They have to fix the old bugs and write in some new ones! Job security!
(Just kidding... even with its faults BIAB pretty much rocks, once you climb the really steep learning curve.)

Thanks again,

Brian

No, it is NOT a bug.
The feature we are talking about was NOT implemented for the MIDI Drums.

It is on the wishlist forum for more than 2 years.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
