When I'm not writing drinking and losing love and going to prison songs, I'm writing a childrens' album. In theory. (Hopefully, this will make up for the next song I'm working on which is about children, but it is NOT a song FOR children...)

I hope you enjoy it. All comments and suggestions are welcomed!

Billy the 1-Wing Bat

BILLY THE 1-WING BAT
Written by Andy Anderson
(c) Copyrighted - Reggie Records 2017 – all rights reserved

Fall will last a little bit, winter not much more
Spring flies in the window, and runs right out the door
Summer comes one day, and gets up with the sun
Wakes you up real early saying, “Let’s go have some fun!”

Donny was a puppy dog who liked to bark and play
Frannie was a little frog, she looked for flies all day
Billy was a silly bat, and he liked everything
He flew around in circles ‘cause, he only had 1 wing

(CHORUS)
Round and round Billy’d fly, wherever they would go
and if that ever bothered them, they never let him know
Friends who stick together,
are friends and friends forever
Donny Dog and Frannie Frog and Billy…the 1-wing Bat…,
He’s a 1-wing bat!

One day the three were playing, out near the candy trees
Although their moms had warned them,
“Monsters live in these... TREEEES!”
Sure enough a big one came, and grabbed them with a crunch
put them in a tiny cage, said “I just made lunch…”

Billy squeezed between the bars, and fluttered on his wing
Made that monster angry, he yelled out monster things
Billy could have flown away, but he flew instead
around and round, and round and round
around-and-round-and-round-and-round
(I know, it’s a lot of arounds…the kids like it…)
around that monster’s head!!!!

WELL THE…
Monster got so dizzy, that his eyes began to shake
Billy bit his ear off, his friends made their escape
The monster ran off crying, and he never reappeared
Billy spit the blood out, but he kept that monster’s ear

(CHORUS)

NOW KIDS….
The moral of the story, is when you’re far from home
stay away from monsters, they want to boil your bones
And if a big one comes your way, and will not let you pass
You fly around his monster head
And you bite him on the ear

(CHORUS) (END)

Excellent choice of backing, and the lyrics are great fun especially for little ones.

Great job.

Thanks, guys. That means a lot to me. I've been puttering with the added sound effect in the mix all day. They seem to be extremely different sounding in cans, monitors, car... I'll probably play around with them a bit more, but I can tinker all day. I'd written this last year and played for the grandkids and they were bouncing off the walls. I'll never do that in person again. They'll get a CD. smile

Andy,

A clever kids write. Entertaining and a number of laughs.

Well done. Good mix. I enjoyed it.

The effects all work, too.

Thanks, Floyd. It's funny, I'm trying not to over-think it. I 'think' in this kids' genre, I need to mix it, put it away for a month, and revisit. I only want it understandable (for kids), so with fresh ears, that's probably the way for me to go.

Laters!

Andy,

Great fun , engaging story and a good production. I love kids songs - especially the nonsense variety - but have yet to get anything recorded; I think you`ve inspired me!

Thanks, Robert and Rich!

That was my first try (or even though) at harmonies, and they were an afterthought. I've spent 43 years playing the same 8 songs on guitar in my room. I'm a solo guy! But it was a fun experiment. I'm sure a million miles away from how-you-really-should-do-it, and uncomfortably close to how-you-should-not-never-ever-do-it, but every journey starts with one, simple, tuna sandwich.

Andy,

As others have already said, this very entertaining! Nice bit of story telling. The arrangement and production are an excellent testament to your imagination... inventiveness plus!

All the best,
Noel

Thanks, guys for taking time to listen and to comment. This whole BIAB deal blows the lid off of the box, doesn't it? All of a sudden there are endless opportunities. And a good community to get sanity-checks.

And I'm learning something new everyday about BB, about the song, and about me.

Thanks, Janice and Bud! Me, too! We didn't get much music at the orphanage. When I was sold to the pirates, there was a lot, but not kids stuff, mostly just about rum and yo-hos and deadmen.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
