Greetings, forumites -

I just wanted to let folks know that if I don't post here for awhile, it's not that I've left, but that I am having surgery tomorrow afternoon.

My C3/4 disc is herniated and bulging into my spinal cord, so I will be receiving my 4th discectomy. I guess I won't be looking up at the sky as much anymore, as my cervical spine from C3 through C7 will be one solid mass of bone (I have previously had my C6/7, C5/6, and C4/5 discs fused).

I've done it before, so I know what to expect, both in surgery and recovery. But this should fix the problem with numbness and tingling in my fingers and arms for the past four months (it's hard to play piano when you can't really feel the keys). The greatest risk, unfortunately, is that sometimes the vocal cords get affected with this surgery, which is not good for me as a choir director. But given the choice of eventual paralysis (left untreated), I'll take the surgery.

I do covet all prayer.

Peace!

John

Thanks, everyone. The well-wishes are very comforting.

The good news is that my wife will be with me and she is one of the best care givers I know. She just knows how to get stuff from hospital staff and make them happy to do it. Not a skill I have.

Surgery went well, but still have some tingling in my fingers (which I'm hoping is just residual and will be gone in a day or two). I truly appreciate all the well wishes. Assuming the doc is happy about everything, I should be sent home tomorrow for light duty for awhile.

I've had nerve compressions that led to numbness/tingling a couple of times, and for me it has always taken a while for the feeling to return after surgery/therapy. Fortunately, it DOES return

Just wanted to give an update that I am home, still have some tingling in my fingers, but much better than before surgery and so probably just have to give the nerves time to heal. The drugs to ease the pain make me sleepy and I doze a lot, but I do get outside and walk 30-45 minutes (per doctor's direction) each day.

I expect it will be another week and a half or two weeks before I go back to work.

Again, thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. This is a great forum of caring people.

I went to the doctor today for my 6-week checkup. X-rays were perfect. The tingling in my right hand has mostly passed (I only notice it occasionally) and the tingling in my left hand is still there, but much reduced. The doctor says it just takes time for the nerves to heal, so that's good.

I am officially allowed to drive again and am allowed to lift my keyboard again (I was on a 15-pound restriction).

I'll do some physical therapy to loosen the tight muscles in my neck (more the result from hyper-extending the neck during surgery), and then a final check in another 6 weeks. Life is good.

So, yay!

Thanks again for all the well-wishers.

I love that image, Trevor. My facebook avatar right now is the grand piano at the church I used to be pianist for, so very appropriate.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
