This was one of the first songs I recorded with BB, and I did it completely over, longer and moodier. The drums are unusual in that they are a 3/4 pattern in a 4/4 song. A second drum track comes in for fills and on the chorus. The arrangement of the song was influenced by early U2, including the dotted 8 guitar parts. The backwards echo was made with Audacity, and this marks the first use of my new Melodyne program on the vocals.

Dancing in the Clouds
November 2014

A intro - 2 measures

A D High above the harsh confusion, soaring free without a care
E A No one here to see us flying, this is only ours to share

A D Moving out in perfect rhythm, rising up into the sky
E A Freedom flies above the clouds, we soar together, sailing high

AD Dance with me in open spaces
AE Dance with me beyond the crowd
AD Rise above the noise and promise
EDA Dance with me in the clouds

AD Dance with me beyond the fences
AE Dance with me where it's allowed
AD Take my hand in free emotion
EDA Dance with me in the clouds

A - 2 measures

A D Move around me, never touching, perfect softness soars above
E A Warm desire for you surrounds me, sweetness fills the air with love

A D Vibrations trace across the sky, weaving patterns we can see
E A unmarked highway speeds us forward, crystal clear, flying free

AD Dance with me in private gardens
AE Silent music playing loud
AD Dance with me above the rumors
EDA Dance with me in the clouds

AD Dance with me in sweet surrender
AE Dance with me above the crowd
AD Say you'll fly with me forever
EDA Dance with me in the clouds

A EDA 4 measures

Hello Will,

This is one of the few genres we don't typically listen to, but we wanted to give it a listen.

You have a very intuitive approach to the BIAB possibilities, which are almost unlimited. Your creativity shows through and includes several backing tracks not typically compatible, but you made it work. Hats off to you for your skill ... very nice use of BIAB!

Conceptually very interesting music.

Th build was well done. Musically very different to what most users deliver.

I always look forward to your posts because I think you use BIAB in the most inventive ways. No different here. The intro is imaginative and stellar. A great opening. This is a nice production and arrangement.

Enjoyed my listen.

A very creative and to these ears successful venture- the drums sound great and that anthemic U2 vibe is there throughout both lyrically and musically ( is that your guitar playing?).
Well done!

Robert

Yes, all instruments and vocals are mine, the dotted 8 guitar arp was played three times with my Rick 12, Strat and Telecaster, then combined.

We like it! The drums work well, the playing is spot on, the lyric is cool and the vocal fits nicely in. BTW, FWIW, we never noted any "need" of a pitch corrector in your productions. I assume you are just using it for effects?

As mentioned you make very creative use of RT's and your playing.

Nice!

I never use the pitch corrector for effect, but always use it to keep my vocals in tune, I have lousy pitch. That was first mentioned to me here, that I should consider investing in a pitch corrector. Now I use it on every vocal track.

Interesting and thanks for clarifying. I (Bud) am typically pretty sensitive to "pitchy" vocals...but don't recall it from you.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
