Hey the topic on gig prices got to me to wondering if anyone else had any archival videos of themselves performing "back in the day."

Here is one of my band "Too Bad about Pete" in New York in the early 90s. We didn't make a lot of money but we had a lot of fun. On many occasions we got the 11 pm slot at the Bitter End in the Village doing all originals in the era of metal--because the very New York-ish club owner said "You guys sound like moo-sic. I actually like listenin' to ya." It was a really funny time. People would wander in off the street until the place was packed and really skinny guys dressed all in black with black eye shadow were always coming up to me and asking me "show me how you did that lick man." God I miss those days!! smile

Here is one at the club "True Blue."

The vocalist Christine McCabe was my best friend's wife and boy did she have some pipes.

Anybody else got some archival footage???

Cool!

I like the stoic-guitar-guy thing...(though you do get a bit animated at towards the end...)

How long ago was that Dave, because you don't look a whole lot different now.

I'd be afraid to see me from back in the day, which I believe was a Thursday, because it make the old gray bearded guy feel even older. Besides, I always look mad when I play, and people ask me about it all the time. And I always tell them it's just that 75% of the time I am reading a chart and focusing so my ADD doesn't let me get lost.

Side comment: I once got a call at like 4 in the afternoon to play a wedding on a Saturday night. I went to the gig and they had been requested to do Endless Love as that annoying 20 minute thing where everybody in the room is introduced and they dance with the bride for 20 seconds. Well, they gave me this chart and asked me to sight read it. Okay fine. They handed me the stack of pages and I spread them out left to right as they came off the stack. We started playing, and the chart took me WAY into left field. Page 4 and 7 had been switched. Fortunately I knew the song (albeit in a different key) well enough to sing along in my head and know that at that point it did NOT go to the bridge.

Ah.... "the day".....

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

Ha ha ha!!! Eddie, they say they SAME thing to me when I am playing in church, and at one church, they gave me a HUGE lecture about how I was frowning and scowling and looked angry when I was playing.

I kept saying: I AM NOT ANGRY. I AM TRYING TO CONCENTRATE. I AM TRYING TO PLAY NOTES. I HAVE TO PLAY THE HARD STUFF. PLEASE LET ME CONCENTRATE.

But, no they wanted me to bob my head and smile like sunshine so after a while I just gave up. Now they have a guy who plays two chords. But he smiles a lot. Chet Atkins looked like he was frowning when HE played.

Just sayin'

How appalling! Was that Joel Osteen’s church? Unfortunately, a lot of churches neither like Christianity taken seriously. Unbelievable, and the same people probably swallow a lot of camels.

DAW Monkey,

Yeah it's crazy man. I want to go to church, I really do, and I love God and I keep trying but it seems my options are so limited.

I wrote a song about it recently and posted it on the forum.

More of a dive bar alternative rock band. I would just park the camera in the back of the room and stereo X-Y a couple of condenser mics into a mixer to the HiFi VCR audio inputs. I converted a bunch to YouTube last year and ran them through some Ozone mastering in the process. Videos are complete with drunk guys walking around with their beer cans.

David, there is a big difference between spirituality and religions. I truly believe you can believe in God and be a good Christian without being associated to a church.

hmm,
I have old videos around here somewhere (already digitized) .. to be honest I'm pretty sure I have some from the 70's on, but school concerts would not be anything I'd want to post (even though I 'nailed' that 8th grade solo!)

I'll look around and see if I can participate, silly as it may be, this could be fun. I'll try to find something from the same era. I think I have some from around then that show myself, a drummer and a singer .. and we three actually worked together on some new tracks together last week (and the week before, and the week before).
Long lasting friendships are a good thing; plus we are so much better 20 years later!

Found one ..
It's pretty compressed and obviously recorded by the drummer's wife <grin>, but hey it's old and (maybe) fun. A couple of our 'originals'.
http://www.masteringmatters.com/stuff/guru2.mpg (may take a moment to download)

I'm the guy on the left originally playing guitar and talking with Barry off mic, and then my area (keyboards and me) is cut out a lot, but hey, nostalgia.
Man, the camera audio was bad back then.

/dangit, now I want to go find the other videos from that era, just to make sure I know where the originals (or copies) are ..
//this particular video is from a benefit show, for what's it's worth
/// the coolest part is I am lucky enough to still be jamming/writing with these friends from 20-40 years ago (get off my lawn)

One more oldie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi6-KOLbgig
again our originals ..

Well, it was fun looking for some old videos but cant find any old stuff. Can only find stuff after I started performing again (after a twelve year break!)

Here is me in about 2014 performing at TJs acoustic folk club with Nippy Cripwell and Rael Birns. Singing a John Denver song as usual!

https://youtu.be/oAxvyVOTCf8

And here is me performing also in about 2014 with my old band mate of 20 years ago Karen Wilmot.

Here's a video of Family Tradition Band. We were the house band at the largest drawing club in town for 2.5 years. We placed a lot of focus on our vocal work with 3 lead singers who could also handle harmony. This was recorded by someone from the radio station sponsoring this event. It was the Wrangler Country Showdown contest. I'm the singer at the beginning and on the last song. The last song is an original we played written by me. And yeah... we won that competition that night.

In our live show at our house band gig, we did a ZZ Top "mini show" at the end of the 3rd set on Saturday nights. I think we did 2 or 3 ZZ songs. We grabbed a few brand new mops from the storage room and dyed them brown, and wore them. Some times they would get hung in the strings and mute the notes... That part of the show was never the same from one night to the next, but the people really loved that segment. "Hey are you guys going to do the thing with the mops tonight? " "yep".... "OK cool"

The other 3 players left the stage and we had fun. This video was recorded by a guy who came in to record a few nights of our show for a video we called the "Turn Your Hogs Out Tour"... you had to see some of the women in the club to understand that reference. (Yeah... kinda harsh, but a fair assessment)

I think that's all I have is those 2 videos. Enjoy it.

To answer the question..... yup, that was me in the blue jeans and jacket... Steve the bass player and Geoff the drummer didn't really sing even though they had mics. Steve liked to fake it like he was singing and on the TOP stuff he'd throw in the occasional "yeah" while Geoff loved talking sh&% to the audience between songs and handling announcements. "Last call for alcohol" sort of stuff.

We were just having fun. We started doing that one night just as a joke, we had discussed it for a time and literally played it live the first time with no rehearsal since we all knew the songs..... and the people loved it so much we decided to carry it a bit further. I think Tush was one of the other songs by Top that we played in that mini set. The mop beards came a bit further along.

The rest of the band had no problem with it because they got to go on break 10 minutes sooner and the break was still a full break so they loved it too.

Glad you all are liking it too.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
