Does anyone have any experience with refurb monitors? One of my old Dells died, and Newegg has refurbished Lenovo 17" monitors for $33 (with free shipping)! shocked

Thanks.

I'd go check out a thrift store or a pawn shop first. Every time I go into one, there are usually several shelves of computer monitors pretty cheap.

I've got a 24" Dell Refurb that I've had for about 5 years. No issues yet.

I have had no problems buying refurbished products from Newegg or Tiger Direct.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Good deal Bob.... I had also purchased 2 19" Dell flat screens that were hand-me-downs from a previous company I got for $50 each a few years ago on Ebay. They go on the sides of the 24" middle screen. So there's another source for refurbs if you need.

Just came from Good Will, they had about 20 -30, 15 inch brand name monitors for $2.99 each. Old monitors either die or live forever.

Refurbished simply means that someone else had it and during the initial warranty period, something went wrong with it and it was returned for service. Their warranty included replacement with a new one. The original was in good condition and was repaired but could not be sold for new any longer.... it's often in perfect condition (no marks or scratches or very little indication of prior use) and has a full or limited warranty on it.

At the right price, I would not hesitate to buy "refurbished" gear. Heck we do it all the time with musical gear....amps, guitars, etc.... no problem there.

I'm looking for a newer, larger monitor for my new studio and I may just have a look at those refurbished models in the 27" to 32" sizes.

Yeah, unless you do graphic design (or some other graphic intensive work) this would work well for most users. AND save $$ in the long run AND be future-proof.

I work with IT guys that have scoffed at my monitor setup(s) until I pointed out that I'm not playing video games or editing video/images on this system .. I'm either coding or recording .. video is pretty much irrelevant at that point.
As long as the driver doesn't cause performance issues I couldn't care less.
Besides, many (most) HDTVs handle computer input just fine, either via HDMI or good old fashioned VGA (again for most users).

Make your sound your own!

That really is on my list of options.

Being in the security biz, I work a lot with monitors of all sorts, and one time, I had a customer who needed a monitor TODAY....RIGHT NOW. The best option was a visit to Walmart to see what they had. I picked up a small HDTV that had the proper inputs.

Picture quality made the old monitor look like it was black and white 50's TV. The problem for security purposes is that TV's are not designed to run 24/7 like a security monitor is built to do.

But for home and studio, yes... I've been checking the local swap/sell boards on FaceBook for used TV's that will work.

I recently needed a replacement monitor for an old laptop whose screen had failed. New was too expensive, the pawn shops were way too expensive for a used monitor. I picked up a 21" lcd/hdtv from the local Salvation Army Thrift store for only $19.00cdn. So as other have also stated, give the goodwill stores a look. Recently one chap picked up an extruded foam guitar case for $25Cdn and another picked up an amp stand for $5. The savings are out there, but one has to be patient and inquisitive. DennisD
PS that used monitor is so good I am going to incorporate it into my main system at a later date/

I know this is Hong Kong, but in the last 3 or 4 months 3 large flat screen TVs have been put in the rubbish. I missed the last one, because my mate's wife wouldn't let him grab it for me. The bins are opposite his apartment. I found a great Art Deco lamp and took it home. My wife got home and was about to yell at me to chuck it out, as space is very limited here, when she found a lovely note from my 12 year old daughter along the lines of "Please love me, I'm a nice old lamp..." Anyway, the lamp survived. Now, if I could only get the bl***y fridge out of my studio! Imagine a broom cupboard and that's my bolt hole / studio / man cave - and I share it with a fridge!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
