I have the latest updates to my BIAB EP (462), RealBand, and RealTracks. Lately I've been experiencing a loss of audio after editing a song file and trying to play it. The cursor moves but there's no sound. Doesn't happen all the time. But I have to save and restart BIAB to get my audio back. I have a TC Helicon interface running ASIO. Any ideas or similar experiences.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob:

Sorry you haven't gotten much response on your problem. I suspect that it's "specific" and possibly no one else is running the TCH interface.
Have you tried just running BIAB with one of the default MIDI and/or Synthesizer outputs (under Options > MIDI/Audio driver setup)?

Also, is it possible that it's the specific song file you're working on?
Perhaps try one of the sample files in the C:\bb folder and see if you get the same issue.

You could also try the excellent PGMusic Live Help and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Wish I could be more help.
Good luck!

Rob, isn't TC Helicon a vocal harmonizer and not an audio interface? That might be your problem but I don't know for sure.

Try running your on board sound card (audio interface) and see what happens. If it runs ok then the problem is with the TC Helicon. If so then you may need to invest in a audio interface.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Yes, please. Tell us more about the TC Helicon interface. Are you using the 3 Extreme as some kind of USB interface? Mine is still in its box as I'm all set up for streaming with my Voicelive 2. We really need more details to help you. I'm about to start integrating the 3 extreme into my live setup, but I'm planning to download wavefiles from BIAB straight into it and use it's internal sequencing to add the vocal effects/guitar effects automation.

Thanks for the replies, guys. TC Electronic does indeed make an audio interface, The Desktop Konnekt 6. Which is a firewire audio interface and monitor control. Check it out here:

http://www.tcelectronic.com/desktop-konnekt-6/

I've had this unit for about six years and it works just fine. I'm running it on a custom built Intel box with a quad-core Intel processor and 8 gigs of ram. OS is MS Vista Ultimate.

The problem seems to be more with BIAB than with the interface which I also use with REAPER with no problems. It could be song specific as I've noticed it sometimes when opening a demo song into the BIAB chord window. Could be a buffer thing. I will experiment with BIAB preferences, settings, to see if that makes a difference.

Noel suggested using the MME Windows driver instead of the ASIO and see if it makes a difference. I've had the TCH interface a lot longer than I've had the new version of BIAB and it's worked well. So I'm thinking it's some setting in BIAB. Strange no one else has seen this, but all of our systems are different. So as a computer friend of mine likes to say "it could be a million things." LOL Not too comforting, but true.

I'll report on here when I find the culprit. And I WILL find it. The TCH setup I have is only one of six we have here, most with custom computers that I built, so I'm a total geek. We run separate systems for Cubase, Sonar Producer, ProTools, and Reaper. I'll find it or die trying. Haha.

Thanks again,
Rob

Thanx for the information. I learn something new everyday.

I would try MME drivers and see if that clears up the problem. I have read where others have had problems with ASIO drivers and BiaB. Running this test would eliminate that variable.

I do not speak from experience as I have never run ASIO in BiaB. ASIO drivers are for recording (lower latency) and I never record in BiaB. I only record in Sonar.

{edit} - I will add that I had a similar problem a couple years ago with Sonar and my audio interface, a Roland Octa-Capture. That is Sonar would loose contact with my Roland. I had to reboot to return to normal. That was corrected with Win 10 and Sonar upgrades.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
