I hope someone knows how to do this, because I would love to use the SongSmith soundset as an extra sound source next to ForteDXI. Even better, I would like to create a GM SF2 of it.

The SFZ programs are located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs
The samples are located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Songsmith\ARIA\SamplesWAV

When I drag the first (of the 74 SFZ's) 001 Acoustic Grand Piano SFZ into Sforzando I get the following report:

Not sound asset loaded
Not Found:
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/021 SteinJz-f-A0.$B
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/024 SteinJz-f-C1.$B
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/021 SteinJz-f-D#1.$B
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/021 SteinJz-f-F#1.$B
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/021 SteinJz-f-A1.$B
C:\Program Files (X86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs/$A/021 SteinJz-f-C2.$B

I don't see a lot of editing options in the SongSmith folder itself.
Do I have to edit the: Songsmith Soundset.bank XML file ? If so how?

Anyway, is anyone familiar with editing SFZ files and how I could get these sounds to work ?

Rob

I think they have a unique ID for the sound bank so I added it to the PG one:
Copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Songsmith\ARIA\SamplesWAV to
C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds

Copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Songsmith\ARIA\Programs > All *.sfz to
C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\Programs
Make backup copy of Band-in-a-Box Sounds.bank.xml
extract below file

https://www.dropbox.com/s/448c43wbm36wd9r/Band-in-a-Box-Sounds.bank.zip?dl=0
Click No Thanks Continue at bottom

You can add it manually if the PG Sound Bank is Updated to the bottom of Band-in-a-Box Sounds.bank.xml just create a backup copy first !:

Code:
    <!-- Songsmith Soundset -->

    <Define name="$A" value="../SamplesWAV"/>
.......
.......
.......
</AriaBank>

Thank you Pipeline, this is much appreciated!
I will start working on this and I will let you know if I can get it to work this way.

Regards,
Rob

Thanks again Pipeline!!

It works! One but... In my case. I had to install BIAB (partly) which I usually don't do because I have the EverythingPak, which I have on a separate partition. I run Windows from an SSD (which is not big enough).
Anyway, I will find a way to install it onto the same partition where I have the EverythingPak on.

One last question (I almost don't dare to ask ;-)) do you know how I can convert all the SongSmiths SFZ's into one big GM Soundfont (SF2). I tried it before with a demo version of Extreme Sample Converter but I wasn't successful.

Rob

Thanks for that Jim !

There's Polyphone http://polyphone-soundfonts.com/en/
you open all the sfz instruments into it, then on the samples add all the wavs in the wav folder.
You have to Bind the wavs to the instrument,
so open the instrument.sfz in notepad and look at the bottom for sample name,
so if you are doing 001 Acoustic Grand Piano.sfz
search in Samples for Stein, select them, right click Bind to > Acoustic Grand Piano.

You will have to shorten the names first.
Read up on it more here http://polyphone-soundfonts.com/en/documentation/tutorials/create-a-soundfont-from-scratch/119

There is also Viena SoundFont Editor http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Other-AUDIO-Tools/Viena.shtml

I just downloaded the complete Compifont_13082016.sf2 1GB here http://pphidden.wixsite.com/compifont
you can open it in Viena and see how it's put together.

If you can link a folder/files on another drive to the main with http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/Portable-Symbolic-Link-Creator.shtml

Thanks Jim, this will come in handy in the future.

Pipeline,

I will try out polyphone see if I can get some decent results with it.
That symbolic link tool sounds very interesting!

I'm already familiar with Viena. Used it lots of times to compile my final GM SF2 which is a combination of the Magic.SF2 and the Mysing Kite SF2. The latter I think is the best (warmest sounding) GM soundfont.

https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=351893&start=120

Using a good SF2 will in some cases sound better than using DXI Forte for instance, however you cannot directly render MIDI tracks in BIAB this way. I've been using the program SoundTap for this to record these tracks manually, which is quite a workaround I think.

The best thing would be to somehow convert the GM soundfount to DXI somehow (not a clue how to do this).

DirectiXer seems to have gone out with the Ark, I found LiveSynth Pro you can try, it's also redundant.
They all say DXi went out with the Ark also.

I would look at upgrading to Kontakt.

Get Coyote ForteDXi http://www.pgmusic.com/coyotefortedxi.audvid.htm
Get Extreme Sample Converter http://www.extranslator.com/

Convert your your sample to *.gig and replace the existing in C:\Program Files (x86)\Coyote\ForteDXi\SoundBanks (backup folder first)

Not sure why they never made Coyote ForteDXi to load Soundfonts, wouldn't that be better ?????

In the MS Songsmith *.sfz you need to copy to the SamplesWAV folder then replace default_path=$A/ with default_path=/ and all the $B with wav in NotePad so Extreme Sample Converter will find the samples to convert to *.gig.

Code:
; The list of available instruments. Each line consts of Bank (1..16384), Prog (1..128) (-ve for drum sets), filename, instrument within file (1..n)
; Lines starting with a semicolon are comments
; Spaces are allowed before numbers and filenames, but not after filenames

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
