Circling You

Listening to ScottC`s recent instrumental with wah wah guitar I thought " I`d like some of that" and set to work to find a tune for some (purplish) prose I had saved. I`m happy Scott agreed to supply the goods.
We hope you enjoy!

Circling You

you light a slow fuse
in my dreams
dark eyes burning one end
desire the other
`til I am ash in between

I see your dusky body
so proud
your waist curves like a lily
lovely as Africa
turning in her skirts of cloud

bracelets of ringing glass
perfume of azahara
my footsteps in the yellow grass
spirals in your midnight hair
vipers climb heaven`s stair
your name the beggars call in despair
everything is circling you

your magnetic movements
have the power
coil this sad dusty hill
round with the whispering
river of your thighs for an hour

bracelets of ringing glass
perfume of azahara
my footsteps in the yellow grass
spirals in your midnight hair
vipers climb heaven`s stair
your name I call in despair
everything is circling you
everything is circling you

I was logged into soundcloud this morning and got the notification when you uploaded. Excellent piece of music! This is what I said over there:

"Wow, very cool piece of music! Very different and original to these ears. Love that little repeating theme Scott came up with too. Great stuff!"

To that I want to add that the intro from Scott really drew me into the piece, very creative. And listening again ... man, I like the song even better the second time around! Well done both of you.

Wow! You guys put a winner together with this one. That intro is pure dynamite! Scott's guitar work is exceptional - as usual. And the vocal sits perfectly in the tracks - really loved the harmony. TRhe backing tracks are explosive and draw the listener in.

What a lead riff b y Scott.

THIS IS KILLER, GENTLEMEN!

Loved everything about this - the ambience is haunting and captivating. This puppy shines! Hats off and doiuble kudos!

I agree with Bob. The intro grabbed me, then the unusual chord progression. Some fine harmony vocals and Scott' s first lead break is among the best he has posted. A fine collab. Tom

There is something very David Byrne-ish about this to me. Cool feel and atmosphere you have going.

Robert & Scott,

This is an excellent listen. Grabs your ear and never lets go.

There is an "Airplane feel" to this one, too. Really cool... "Robert Airplane". Great sound. Cool "retro" lyrics...

Scott - your guitar work throughout this is truly excellent. Impressive. Every part. Cool opening. Stellar lead.

This is good!

Well this is something else! First, I love the flagolets (did I spell that right?) in the beginning. And this time your vocals reminded me straightaway of the first two albums of Chris Isaak. And yes, I think that is an accomplishment ;-)

This is what collabs are all about. One is never sure about the outcome until the process is completed and, for this song, wow!!

It takes me (Janice is too young smile ) back to the best of psychedelia. To the songs that weren't overwrought or caricatures of the times. To the ones that were well written and performed, like this one, and painted remarkable tapestries.

Bring on the light show!

Most excellent guys is all aspects - performances, arrangement, write and mix.

A cool addition to our playlist.

Dave,
Thanks for your reviews - its great to hear that another guitarist gets how good Scott is on this song. I had no idea how he would embellish the intro and was thrilled that he came up with such an atmospheric theme.

Thank you Alan & Di!
As the intro says I already had the lyrics so they suggested a
middle eastern/psychedelic vibe...I really wasn`t sure it would work until Scott added his guitar.
The harmonies are from Helicon ( by assigning each to its own track I found I could get a better sound).
I`m very glad you enjoyed our efforts.

Thanks Dave I was really excited when Robert asked me to join him on a song again. When I saw the chord chart for the song and heard the initial backtrack and vocal I knew it was going to be special. I must say had allot of fun trying to come up with some ideas that would do the song justice. The neighbours appreciated it too :-)

Tom & Bob,
Thanks for the positive feedback. I`ve listened to Scott`s lead breaks about 100 times and they are still giving me goosebumps.
On the chord progression its a departure from my folk songs so I`m pleased the way it worked out.

Thank you - I always liked the way David Byrne used rhythm,
though the inspiration here was from listening to Cream.

Floyd,

I`m very glad you liked this... "Robert Airplane" -thank you for the new moniker! Maybe Scott and I should do an album - "Surrealistic Filler"? "Clowns of Creation"? Watch this space.

Rob,
I had to look that one up ( I think you mean flageolet = harmonics).I have to give credit first to the RT for turning a very folky sounding bouzuki into something more when I punched in the chords and added holds at the beginning & of course to Scott who came up with that attention grabbing lead over top.
Chris Isaak is one of my favourite pop singers, so thank you for that.

Thanks so much Tom for the awesome comment. When I first saw the chord progression on the song I knew it was going to be special. Was so glad Robert invited me to play on it. I really missed this kind of music. Took me back to me youth

Thanks Floyd Robert provided a perfect song. When experimenting with the various parts of the song the notes just seemed to naturally drop in and fit. I am so glad it turned out the way it did. I was a little nervous when I sent the first track to Robert.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
