I've been searching the forums for a while because I'm sure that someone else has asked this before, but no luck. I'm using an iRig HD2 interface with a MacBook Pro. Not having any issues getting my backing track to play through the headphones, however I can't figure out how to get my guitar to output through headphones as well. I have used this configuration with Reaper and it works just fine, but after digging through BIAB settings for hours I can't seem to find anything. I'm really hoping this exists, because I'd rather not go through with building and exporting tracks to my DAW each time I want to monitor my instrument, although I suppose that would be acceptable.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe try Input Monitoring .. this should send the guitar back out of the software with the mix. Which DAW are you using? BiaB, RB, or?
The instructions may vary

Otherwise, I would think you could arrange this in the iRig mixer app.

Where can I find the "Input Monitoring" setting that you described? I just searched the BIAB manual for this and didn't get any matches.

Sorry, I don't know in BiaB. I could explain for Realband, but I don't try this type of stuff in BiaB.
I'm pretty sure it is possible, but I really can't tell you how right now.

Hopefully someone else can fill this part in.
I'm pretty sure you need to be using ASIO drivers for your device too, in order for this to work in an acceptable fashion.

Does your interface have a software control panel? Check in the settings for the control panel for your interface. That's where you set lots of "default" things such as input and output levels, and FX like comp/EQ and perhaps you will find echo input in there too. Everyone forgets about that software control panel.

Mine echos everywhere in every program I have. In fact, the software doesn't need to be active.... with just the computer on I can hear everything from my interface inputs..... mics, guitars, etc.

BB really isn't a DAW in the strictest sense of the word, or at least in my opinion. Real Band is. Most DAW's do give you a choice to echo the inputs or not.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into this a little bit further. My interface (iRig HD2) doesn't really have a control panel, it just shows up as an input/output device in "System Preferences" on the Mac and gets configured from there.

Given the responses I've seen so far, I wonder if I'm trying to make BIAB do something it's not supposed to? I'm a new user so it really wouldn't surprise me. Based on what I've read so far it looks like the workflow should be

1. Author the backing track in BIAB.
2. Publish to audio file (mp3, wav, whatever...).
3. Import into DAW.
4. Jam and Record.

Is that what most folks are doing?

1. Author the backing track in BIAB.
2. Open file in Real Band.
3. Enable an Audio track. Set input to iRig.
4. Enable Input Monitoring in Real Band.
5. Have fun!

Regards,

Bob

He did say he's on a Mac, and if he's using BIAB for Mac, there is no Real Band. I drag and drop my BIAB creations into Logic, but you can do the same with Garageband.

Thanks to both of you. I think even the example on Windows was helpful, because it gives me an idea of the area of responsibility for BIAB and the DAW. Appreciate your help!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
