Hi All.

Well, what can I say about this one? Just a bit of fun, really.

The backing has been sitting on my computer for ages whilst I put the animation together, so I've lost the RT numbers, but the acoustic guitar, bass and sax are RTs - the other guitars are down to me. The drums are MIDI played from the Drum Source sample player and the extra horns are Forte.

The video was put together using software from Muvizu, Serif and Lightwave.

TIL MONEY CHANGES HANDS
I played a gig in this downtown bar
This man comes up, he says he'll make me a star
He liked the songs, he said I'd got a style
He said I'd make it rich, he said I'd make a pile
"There's just one thing that you've got to understand
Nothing's gonna happen here, 'til money changes hands."

I needed cash so I went to see a man
To see if he'd got a job where I could maybe try my hand
He took one look and said - "I think you'll make the grade
But first I need to check to see if you've got what it takes
There's just one thing that you've got to understand
Nothing's gonna happen here, 'til money changes hands."

I got to thinking that I should stand and fight
So I went to see the Judge downtown to try to put things right
He said - "I can deal with that, I'll get him taken down
I'll get onto the sergeant and he'll send the heavies round
There's just one thing that you've got to understand
Nothing's gonna happen here, 'til money changes hands."

Thanks, as usual, to all who have time to listen.

Cheers, ROG

Well, that was fun to watch! Great job on the video!

Loved the song too, great chorus. Cool fx on the vocals, what is that if you don't mind my asking? Nice job on the guitar, could maybe be a bit louder in the mix? But that's subjective I guess, I probably mix mine too loud smile

Overall I enjoyed the song and the video, nice job!

Excellent song and video. Fun to watch and hear. The message is probably more relevant than we'd like to believe......

Enjoyed this from start to finish.

Ah, another muvizu user (Pat Marr is not alone anymore ;-))
Cool video! (And we know how much work this one must've taken).
What a cool song!!! Love the guitar solos, but what struck me even more are the very smooth ELO-like backing vocals, you've definitely outdone yourself here!

Hi Dave.
Many thanks for looking in and for the review.
The effect used on the vocals is a vocoder. I still use a hardware vocoder by Syntovox, which I've had since the 80s. The most common use for these is the talking synth, but when you get to know your way around them there are lots of more subtle things you can do with them. I love it, but one day it will stop working and my repair guy says then it becomes junk! If you want more info on vocoders, send me a PM.

Hey, you could be right about the guitar volume. I have a standing joke going with Floyd about solo volumes and he's going to give me some grief about this!

Anyway, glad you liked the track.

Cheers, ROG.

Hi Rob.
My old pal Pat says I got him into animation, but it's Pat who introduced me to Movizu. It's a great program, but there's a lot to learn before I get anywhere near Pat's standard.
Hey, thanks for the comments about the vocals. I always worry about my vocal tracks and coming from someone who sings as well as you do that's a great compliment.

Well, Floyd my friend, what can I say. As soon as I saw Dave's comment I knew I was in for trouble.
And who's to say I don't deserve it. I was well and truly caught out this time!

The vocal and guitar performances were most excellent. You are really outstanding at layering sounds without a hint of clutter. Or as Janice just said, " there's a lot going there but it never sounds busy!" Yep.

We cranked it up and as expected it all held together perfectly and sounded great.

And the video...the details were so cool like the wrist watch on the artist and the way his chops worked with the song. But it will take a few more views to begin to catch it all.

Oh..not to forget the clever write!

Lotta fun here and a lotta talent in the production.

Many thanks, Greg. Always pleased to get a review from you. A lot of the vocals are treated with my old 80s Syntovox vocoder, yes in the style of ELO who I really admire.

ROG,

that was awesome! Somehow I missed the fact that you were using Muvizu! Great use of that software! (How did you make the cascading dollar signs? I take it that was one of the other programs you used?)

I'm guessing that you played guitar? I really liked the guitar decorations, whether you played them or crafted them from real tracks

The line "nothing's gonna happen here..." sounds very instrumental, like maybe you used a vocoder? Cool sound, however you achieved it.

I like the lyrics and the arrangement. You have a knack for makin' catchy tunes. Thanks for all you do to add value here! I appreciate your contributions!

Hi J&B
Once again, it's good to get a review from people who's work I respect so much.
There's a lot of work getting the video to sync with the track, so I'm really pleased that you noticed that - makes it all worthwhile. I had a lot of fun putting this together, so I'm pleased that you got some fun out of it.

Hi Pat my old friend!
Good to see a review from you, particularly in view of the animation.
I've had Muvizu for a while now and I have to say it was your own superb animations with it which prompted me to buy it. There's a lot to learn yet, before I can compete with you, but I'm having a lot of fun on the way. The cascade was done outside of muvizu, as you guessed and involved a lot of swapping between platforms.
And yes again, it was my old Syntovox vocoder on the "nothing's gonna happen here" line. Well spotted.
The guitar ornamentation was played by me - I couldn't get the RTs to do exactly what I had in mind, so I had to resort to the old methods!
So, many thanks for looking in on this one.
Regards, Roger.

ROG,

Outstanding entertainment!!!!

Your production is amazing, your singing and playing sizzles and your video is the crowning glory! It's hard to believe that so much talent can be packed into 3 minutes 18 seconds. I was completely engrossed with the song and its presentation from start to finish. Really fine work!

All the best,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."

Convenient Ways to Listen to Band-in-a-Box® Songs Created by Program Users!

The User Showcase Forum is an excellent place to share your Band-in-a-Box® songs and listen to songs other program users are creating!

There are other places you can listen to these songs too! Visit our User Showcase page to sort by genre, artist (forum name), song title, and date - each listing will direct you to the forum post for that song.

If you'd rather listen to these songs in one place, head to our Band-in-a-Box® Radio, where you'll have the option to select the genre playlist for your listening pleasure. This page has SoundCloud built in, so it won't redirect you. We've also added the link to the Artists SoundCloud page here, and a link to their forum post.

We hope you find some inspiration from this amazing collection of User Showcase Songs!
