Likewise John! FWIW, I thought of you and Anita often while we were in Lake George. Our paths will cross again.

Pat, thanks for posting links to Denise's songs. They are relevant here, in the sense that I play on many of the songs and when I do, I did the arrangement in BIAB before heading to the studio. You will hear me rarely on trumpet/flugelhorn/cornet, but more often on flute, alto flute, soprano sax or vibes - whatever helped a little to make Denise's music sound even better.

I should add that Carol did the recordings of Matt's concert. She graciously held my small digital recorder and recorded the concert. For that I thanked her very much.

Here are a few pictures of our trip:

https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public/Lake%20George

If you can't see them let me know.

I have CRS and I forgot how to add pictures to a message. If people can't see them on dropbox them I hope someone will remind me how to add them to a message.

Mario,

linking to the folder "dropbox.com/home..." tries to open my own HOME directory. It might be easier (for us) if you posted links to individual files.

To do that, right click on a file in your dropbox folder, and a floating menu should appear. From that menu, pick :
DROPBOX > COPY DROPBOX LINK

That should be the same as copying the URL of the file. Then paste the link directly into a message, and people should be able to open the files even if they don't have a dropbox account.

I know Australia is huge... it's hard to wrap my brain around the distances between BIAB forum members who live there. Is there any chance of a BIAB get-together between forum members in Oz? If so keep us posted... you never know who might travel to be part of it!

That would be great, Pat. As you mentioned, the tyranny of distance is against many of us.

I think we need a good reason to get together, like "Pat Marr's coming to Oz .... let's all go meet him" laugh

I like that idea... we should keep it alive in a different thread. Maybe one named "BIAB OZ Get Together 2019". It would be interesting to see if the idea builds any momentum...

One minor touchup.

The 4th link didn't work.

Try this

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Thanks Mario (and Eddie). The picture of the three of us (Eddie's link) was taken by my wife, Denise on our dock.

Since Matt and his wife Denise are local celebrities, the stores around Lake George NY carry their CDs. I bought Matt's and have been listening to it in my car. Man, that's my idea of good music! I've heard Matt on Pandora before, but Pandora has the annoying trait of playing one or two songs you asked for, then branching to other peoples' music.

Playing Matt's CD, one song after another has been fun. Not only does it reinforce what most of us already know (BIAB is great software for writing songs) but it also makes me more aware of the man's raw talent. Here is a link to his web page:

http://www.mattfinley.com/

Likewise, Matt's wife Denise also has a web presence. All of her songs are available for listening or buying, and both web sites are well worth visiting!

www.denisejordanfinley.com/

This is more comprehensive than the link I posted previously to her Youtube channel, which does not represent her full body of work.

Sorry if all this posting about the Finleys makes me look like a fan, but I know the members of this forum have an investment in one another, and an appreciation for good music. It never hurts to acknowledge and respect the music work of a good friend... especially when it's this good!

I am a big fan of Matt's music and in fact I bought his CD a while back and posted how good it was. I have yet to listen to Denise's albums that I bought but I have heard a song or two of hers and they are very good.

Here's a nice picture of the band's front line as published in the regional newspaper, the Lake George Mirror.

I'm attempting a Dropbox link. If that doesn't work, I'll just stick it on my website.

Caution, it's a large file, 16 MB.

Here is the first of several videos I'll be posting. This song is called LAST DAY OF SUMMER, and it was written by Matt Finley using Band In A Box software, so I think it deserves a spot here on this forum:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/iv44yw1mbpfd6av/LastDayOfSummer.mp4?dl=0

As noted previously, the band does not practice before this performance! They have a pre-concert meeting in which Matt goes over hand signals etc, and the rest is a combination of improvisation and chart reading! (charts prepared by Matt of course!)

During Matt Finley's concert in Lake George, it was my goal to record everything, then post links for anybody who wanted to hear Matt's music, but who wasn't able to attend. Unfortunately, I had some technical difficulties. My camera battery ran out, so I missed parts of a couple of songs.

Also, all the swivel joints on my camera tripod were really sticky, so transitions were very jerky instead of being smooth. I used software to stabilize the footage to whatever extent is possible, but I'm going to apologize in advance for the poor quality of the video. Parts of the following video were so chaotic that I just replaced the footage with still shots.

The good news is that the main event is the music, not the video, and I thought that the sound came out reasonably well considering the fact that it was just whatever my camera's cheap built-in mic picked up.

More video to come, as time allows!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
