Modern Man

Here is an old one part midi part real tracks - can only find the midi sgu file (apparently added the real tracks separately).
I updated it added some real tracks and a new guitar part at the end (and probably made the song too long)....

Leon wrote the lyrics and sang
I played various guitars sang and played the small harmonica intro.

Modern Man
I told my therapist the other day
I’m not crazy only looks that way
I’m just an average guy
In the information age
I’m just a modern man
I got some normal modern rage
I’m just a modern man
In the modern age

I hate the Government and all the lies they tell
I the multinationals and all the useless things they sell
I’m just like every man as far as I can gauge
I’m just a modern man
In the modern age
I’m just a modern man
In the modern age

My wife seems like a stranger
Oh man she cleaned me out
My kids just want what’s left
It’s all they care about
I’m just a modern man
Of a certain age
I’m just a modern man
In the modern age

I know that once upon a time
I was full of youthful zeal
Hard to believe it now that the 60’s were for real
Did we really think rock & roll could soothe the dogs of war
All that peace and love and happiness
And “what are we fighting for”

I need to find myself a modern girl
To get me back on track
A gorgeous smart & sassy girl
Who won’t stab me in the back
I need a modern girl
I’m at a difficult stage
I need a modern girl
For this modern age

I told my therapist the other day
I’m not crazy only looks that way
I’m just a normal guy
In this confusing age
I’m just a modern man
Chock full of fashionable rage
I’m just a modern man
In the modern age

I know that once upon a time
I was full of youthful zeal
Hard to believe it now that the 60’s were for real
Did we really think rock & roll could soothe the dogs of war
All that peace and love and happiness
And “what are we fighting for”

Peter and Leon,

Gosh... we don't think we'd ever heard you creating such a full and rich sound before!
Leon's timbre really works here.
The musical arrangement really has power.
Peter, you've outdone yourself with the guitar here!

Peter,

based on your lyrics, I think I must be a modern man full of modern rage too! I identify with a lot of what the lyrics say, except the family stuff. My wife was one of the good ones, and she blessed me with two really wonderful kids who aren't waiting for me to die so they can get my stuff.

I'm guessing you played the guitar parts since that's the reputation you have around here.. they sound good to me! I have heightened interest in any song that is part BIAB and part live performance, so your songs are generally on my "special attention" list.

Much respect to you.

Very cool tune Peter. Loved the vocal and lyric. Loved the message in the lyrics. Guitar was exceptional.

Hi Peter.

A great driving backing which kicks again into the bridge. Nicely done.

Great vocal and I particularly liked the line - "Did we really think rock & roll could soothe the dogs of war". Hmmm... makes you think!

Super guitar work at the end and into the fade.

Cheers, ROG.

Peter, really liked the tremendous energy this song develops toward the end. The guitar work in the latter part of song sounded good along with he vocal! Thanks, Torrey.

Love those lines.

A song that "talks to ya". A good write.

The tracks are just what they should be. Cool solo!

(I often wonder why we don't get to "meet" Leon... he could join us here... just saying....)

Hey Peter & Leon,

Some really provocative lines in this one ... and they're all excellent. Leon's vocal is spot on and the backing tracks are great, too. Great song and delivery. Cool stuff!

Thanks Pat - fortunately the lyric is not about either of us. Thanks also for the comments about the guitar parts.

I looked at all those lyrics, and thought... Man, this song is never going to end! Five minutes!

And then I got into the groove, and enjoyed it so much that I was surprised how quickly it got to the fade.

Modern rage sounds mellow coming from you. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Five minutes just give you more time to appreciate all the goodies here.

You put the whole package together here extremely well.

There's a great cohesiveness with the lyric, vocal, backing tracks and your guitar.

Everything flows through so nicely and, man, does that outro ever nail everything.

floyd has already quoted our favorite lines but there are plenty more fine ones.

Outstanding.

Wow, PeterF! You know it's a sign of a properly written song when it runs at 5 minutes but doesn't feel like it in the slightest. Thanks so much for sharing! From the lyrics, to the chord progression - I love it all! smile

Cheers,
Deryk

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
