I am looking for a midi keyboard/workstation in the $1K price range. I am very fond of the Yamaha PSR Series, since owning a Tyros. I am open to any suggestions though.

What is the best keyboard bang-for-buck in this price range? I will be ordering it in a few days, so I welcome any advice.

Thanks,

Trax

Thanks for the recommendation. I was also looking at the Korg PA600 as well. Anyone here own one?

Thanks.

+1 for the Casio PX5s. Compare here with a Nord costing three times as much: https://www.keyboardforums.com/threads/casio-px-5s-vs-nord-stage-2-blind-piano-sound-test.25959/
At $999.95, it's a good buy and weighs 24 lbs. I've had mine for about 1 1/2 years now and have used it for jazz, wedding etc gigs. Very happy with it.

I own an older Korg N5 synth and the sounds are really good quality.

You may want to hit a Guitar Center or some other music store where you can demo keyboards in person too before cutting loose on one.

You also want to decide if you want 61, 76, or 88 keys, weighted action or not. There's a lot of factors you want to think about.

Good luck in your selection.

HI TRAX

Well as you are familiar with the Yamaha OS from your tyros (do you still have it)
You would be happy with the Yamaha PSR range the 770 is in your price range the 970 is just above but shop around .
Both of these are full arranger keyboards and the voicing will be very compatible with previous midi files from the tyros re Bank change and voice numbers MSB LSB program / patch.
3 intro and endings 4 style variations for each style onboard audio record to wav file on USB.

If you feel you would like a nice 88 key Piano full size weighted keys then the Yamaha DGX 660
Is a very good buy this is a very good price right in you range.
Still has on board styles and a full set of XG lite voices + some nice panel voices like sweet and live .
Only 2 intro / ending and 2 style variations on these but the most useful 2 out of the 4 on other models.
Be aware the DGX range does not have any standard mid 5 pin din sockets only mid via usb to host. But this is fine for connecting your pc and BIAB / DAWS etc.
Just my thoughts any questions please come back.
Mike

I also like the fact that the Yamaha keyboards have vocal harmonies. That is an extra incentive to me. I don't have my Tyros anymore and regret selling it to this day. I think the 970 is my 1st choice, if i can find one close to my price range. Thanks again everyone for the information.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
