Dear SupportForum

I'm quite new at BIAB and are trying to know the program.
If I had a 3 chorus song, I want to change the tempo at bar 1 in chorus 2.

I click at bar 1, open the barsettings and mark chorus 2. Set the Tempo Change to 120 bpm (main tempo is 85), and click OK.

Now I starts the song a few bars earlier than chorus 2, but nothing happens ?

I'm using BIAB 2017 for MAC

can anyone help

I can't get the tempo to change when applied to multiple chorus songs but works OK in single chorus songs. I'll ask support to have a look.

Morten,

Did you regenerate the song? Bar settings require a full regeneration to engage them.

Noel

I'm finding here in Mac Band-in-a-Box 2017 ( Build 177 ) that changing the tempo from 120 to 100 then doing a full regeneration changes the entire song project to 100 bpm.

What you've described is normal operation for Band-in-a-Box. Band-in-a-Box regenerates each track to match the new tempo.

If you want to have multiple tempos in a song, set the initial tempo in the control panel then use the F5 bar settings to adjust the tempo throughout the song. All tracks will adjust tempo to match the F5 bar settings.

Band-in-a-Box regenerates all tracks to match tempo settings. Frozen tracks will also be regenerated to match a change in tempo settings.

Hi Jim,
I think the problem (originally reported) is that Tempo changes via F5 are not working in "multiple chorus" mode, even after regeneration. Works fine on single chorus songs.
I noticed also, that if you unfold a "Multi Chorus" song to a single big chorus the F5 settings for Tempo (if they where in the original "Multi Chorus" song are not replicated in the unfolded version (not sure if they are meant to but features implemented via F5 (Bar settings) usually do).

Beachboy,

Thanks for the reply. Your explanation helps me understand how Band-in-a-Box might be used in this instance. I hope your assumption is correct and that Morten Magni will confirm you are correct.

The use of multiple choruses is confusing in a Band-in-a-Box song project. Band-in-a-Box plays a song project unfolded but displays and prints a song folded. Consider a song project using the default settings of bar 1 to start, bar 32 to end and 3 choruses.

Band-in-a-Box plays a song from start to finish; in other words BiaB plays the default song settings sequentially from bar 1 to bar 96 as though the song is unfolded into one big chorus. So a tempo setting applied to bars 5 to 8 are not repeated at bars 37 to 41 and bars 71 to 76 as you might suspect.

Folded choruses work best as display and print tools where each chorus is assumed to be the same as the rest of the choruses.

Now what I've said above is a VERY broad generalization. There are exceptions. Preferences has numerous selections that change how BiaB works with choruses on a global scale and song settings can also modify program behavior on a song-by-song basis.

I hope this helps!

Hi Jim,
Yes, I rarely if ever, work with BIAB in "Folded/Chorus" mode. I prefer to have my "Bar Settings" exposed in a linear way.
However, it seems like the original poster's question relates to their attempts to arrange a song using a "chorus"style.
My assumption would be that if you changed something (i.e. muted an instrument, changed a harmony, altered a tempo) say on chorus 2 of a three chorus song, then BIAB would follow those "instructions" during playback.
You or I might choose to "unfold" the song but it seems the original poster wanted to know why, in "chorus" style it did not play as they expected.

Beachboy,

I think Morten Magni needs to clarify his initial post. In his post he states he wants to change tempo starting at bar 1 of chorus 2. He also states he is making the tempo change using bar settings. Finally he states,
Quote:
Now I starts the song a few bars earlier than chorus 2, but nothing happens?
.

I'm confused. How can he can test a few bars before bar 1 if the song is folded?

Hi Jim,
One way is to right click on a bar and "play from" any chorus you like.
Maybe he is doing that from a bar near the end of chorus.
Also, if you double click a bar near the end of the chorus, BIAB will play the remaining bars before proceeding to the next chorus.
At least that's my understanding.

Hello

sorry that I have not been answering in the forum. I did't know that there was a reply - SORRY
As I wrote i'm quite new in the BIAB world, and i'm not sure that I know the difference between folded and unfolded songs?

I have made a little video about my problem in barsettings (F5), and shared it in my dropbox.

Hi Morton,
What you are trying to do should work BUT it dosen't at the moment due to a fault with the program.
The way to do what you want for the moment is to "unfold" the song.
Go to the EDIT menu SONG FORM then UNFOLD (Convert to 1 Big Chorus)

Your song will then expand to 1 large chorus not 5. you can then use the Bar Settings (F5) at the bar for the chorus you want to change tempo at and do it there, then go on to where you want to go back to the original tempo and set the tempo back there.

Morten,
I did report the issue to the support team (online chat) but not sure if they are working on it or not.
If you want to report it again you can use the Live Help on the top right of this Web page.
Sometimes it takes a little while for the "fixes" to come through in the updates.
Remember to keep checking for the updates from time to time.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
