Noel those sounds are amazingly good. If they are all produced using BiaB and without resorting to multi-track recordings using "real" guitarists or pianists, then that's exactly what I'm attempting to do.

I'm completely blown away at the intricacies of some of those tunes and riffs.

Thanks for sharing them!

All the best
Chris

A DAW will give you the greatest control over your sound, but you can still do an awful lot in BIAB.

However, since you only have the BIAB Pro Pak, which is really an entry-level version that has very limited RealDrums and RealTracks content. The Pro Pak is really designed to give you a taste of what you can do with BIAB; however, most folks pretty quickly upgrade to one of the other paks to have much more musical content at your fingertips. Even the MegaPak gives you a lot more content to work with, but the UltraPlusPak or EverythingPak gives you all the RealDrums and RealTracks.

The higher level packs give you much more "real" content to work with (pianist, guitarist, bassists, horn players, etc), so you don't need to resort to "live" players, unless you are looking for a specific riff or melody (remember, RTs are pre-recorded phrases and don't follow MIDI note data - they are instead designed to work within your chord progression).

Since you can create in BIAB, you can easily export (or drag and drop) out of BIAB and bring your content into the DAW of your choice. That may require a lot of back and forth, but still very doable.

Or work within the track limitations of BIAB and do everything there.

Chris, if you've got Logic, you're good to go. You can generate a track in BIAB and just drag and drop the single track (rather than the whole arrangement) into Logic. If you aren't happy with it, regenerate it in BIAB and drag and drop it into Logic again... and again... and again... until you are happy with it. As a former Windoze user, what I can tell you is that Real Band IS a DAW, but with the ability to regenerate a specific part (or section of a part) just like BIAB does. However, you can regenerate these within BIAB and drag/drop them to Logic. This is not terribly cumbersome, and (at least to me) well worth avoiding the Windoze environment. Of course, YMMV...

I also have to agree with jford, you're going to want ALL the real tracks to play around and experiment with, if you can afford them.

THIS is what I wanted to hear. I'm very happy to upgrade to the ultraPlusPAK and have just had a response from PG Support (Woah! A long time to respond - I asked the question on 18/6/2017) saying that they will refund me for the additional PAK I just bought as it's included in the UltraPlusPAK. I'm going to buy it and see where it takes me. Thank you so much for this response.

All the best
Chris

Thanks so much for the additional recommendation. I've dropped the folks at PG Music an Email asking how I go about getting the "top" pack so I can delve further into creating my new song.

Thanks all for being so helpful. Appreciate it!

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

The "top" pack is the Audiophile edition of the software. That will give you exactly the same that you presently have except that Realtracks and Realdrums will be in higher quality WAV/AIFF files rather than the compressed files that the UltraplusPak has.

From the perspective of Realtracks, Realdrums, Styles, etc., there is no difference between the UltraplusPak and the EverythingPak. The EverythingPak contains additional video tutorials, lessons and extra MIDI songs.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks, Noel - I have placed the order and paid for the 'Everything' pack and have downloaded the files. Now to install them and make sure not to lose anything I've already created.

Cheers
Chris

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
