Hi

Does anyone know what cannot be transferred over to Reaper from Realband. For example, I lost all my gain editing in RealBand and panning / volume settings, but I just used the File Render option. Maybe there are some tricks to this? If not, then at least I needn't waste time on doing that kind of audio editing. Nonetheless, I'm very enamored of the ability to regenerate parts of RealTracks and cut them up. Not to mention the multi-riff option. blush

Hi Lambada

You may find my midi nightmare thread of interest just down the page as I have solved some of the problems of saving Realband as midi for transfer to another Daw.
You need to read it all to find how I overcame them one by one.

If by gain and pan settings in tracks, done via the mixer did you take the necessary snapshots to insert the midi event data in the midi event list.
It won’t get into the midi file if you don’t do this, see my post

Make sure you are at the correct place in the file when you do this. If it is the overall general mix then rewind the file to the start before inserting the snap shot they get inserted at the current cursor position / time! Good for mid track variations to vol and pan.
Mike
PS
The above of course assumes you are working in midi!
If you are working with audio ( Real tracks ) I would have thought you changes would be reflected in the rendered wav file that you then import to your DAW already done so to speak.

Just RealTracks but the changes didn't seem to be saved. I'll have to test it a bit. As I say, first time using them together. The midi info may be useful as I do use midi for controlling things. I might even return to midi in due course. Thanks.

lambada,

In everything I create, I end up taking audio (always) and MIDI (sometimes) from Realband to Reaper. Both programs are very important links in my music production chain. I like that Realband can be used as a 'very beefed-up' version of BIAB.

When I transfer audio to Reaper, I always use CTRL+A to select an entire track and then I click on the "Export Selection (or whole track)" icon that is located on the top right, above the tracks, and save the file to a specific song folder. In Reaper, I then open Reaper's 'Media Explorer' (under the View menu), navigate to the file and load the audio into my project.

As far as I'm aware, the "Export" option in Realband saves any modifications a track has undergone. I'm not absolutely sure of this because I tend to use volume envelopes in Reaper (I like Reaper's many different envelope shapes; I'd be lost without the "Slow start/end" shape as this works really well with designing musical phrases).

Hope this helps,
Noel

Considering the number of RB/Reaper users, it would be nice if Reaper could import the MIDI that is associated with the Nodes on an Audio track in RB. However, Save Track to File would need to include them.

Currently, when you 'Render' the track the resulting Audio file inherits the Node changes from RB, but they are not saved to the actual Audio file so you can continue using them. They are heard (affecting the resulting output) but not shown in Reaper.

In other words; where your RB nodes said to make the track softer, it does when rendered as Audio .. but when this track is imported to Reaper these adjustments do not show up in any event list; they just happen on the audio since it is a rendered Audio file. So you are basically starting over at the mix level with Nodes.

Personally, this has often caused me to just stay in RB until I 'need' something I can't do. Then I use whatever does what I need .. Reaper, Audacity, ProTools, whatever ..

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
