Hence a remark made by Aussie (Noel96) on the BIAB general issue forum, i have a sales policy thing/issue.

For the last couple of years i try to keep up with the " X-mas time buying a USB drive with the whole Audiophile Everything caboose" lot.

Now i get the feeling that each year i buy a lot of the same stuff again, the earlier RTs and Drumtracks, and actually with this quite fairly priced deal, not really a problem, but i still have to pay some 25 to 30% imports and VAT in the EU over the lot each year.

Estimated by now that's about 100% or more taxes over the same stuff bought "again", and i am not counting the new RT and Drumtrack files since Audiophile came out. So taxes recharged over stuff i already bought before.

I now have about three or four 3TB BIAB drives. And have paid taxes over each one on each new import with partly the same stuff.

So the Q to PG is:
Can't PG think of a more consumer friendly way of doing business with customers outside the US/Canada ?

Some possible options:

1) Buy downloads or DVDs of just the updates separately.

Or better:

2) Sending in the BIAB USB drive for an update ...
One then can keep the outgoing Postage slip as proof for a tax-free re-import of the (same?) drive.

Not my favorite, but:

3) Some sort of licensing deal like annual rights paid separately to PG for a (partly bought or even free) USB drive.
I'd rather pay a fee for the PG workers directly, than the tax office once again for the stuff i already have paid for.
F.i. Adobe does that now, and one does not pay taxes over subscription deals.

--------------
A fee for the sometimes terrific stuff coming from the PG studio musicians and staff is a fair thing, and the free users rights PG offers too.

I am not a "jazzer", but don't mind paying for the stuff i can use, folk, blues and country related, though the jazz studio musicians should also have a share in the fun, eh?

But I really don't like paying triple or more times VAT and Import taxes over the same stuff, and especially over material i don't actually use.

Now I'm rather curious what other PG Audiophile clients outside the US/Canada think !! F

I think if I lived outside the US or Canada, I'd be asking for the same thing.

Fiddler2007,

+1. That's a good suggestion. I believe what your requesting is an Audiophile to Audiophile PlusPak containing the same updates as the existing PlusPak but with the addition of Audiophile WAVE or AIFF RealTracks. Is my thought correct? I think most people on this forum agree it's better to spend money with PG Music than the tax man.

The problem remains implementing the suggestion. Presently the storage media requirement is excessive for almost any storage media except for a hard drive. For instance the non Audiophile 2016 to 2017 PlusPAK update is available on 2 DVDs, a 32GB USB flash drive or as a more than 11 GB download. This PlusPAK contains 202 lossy file format RealTracks. Then there is the 2017 49PAK that includes an additional 24 file format RealTracks. I didn't count other included material. I can't guess how many additional DVDs are needed to store 246 lossless RealTracks but I'm sure it requires more than the unused space remaining on the 32 GB USB flash drive. Perhaps someone with the 2017 Audiophile PAK can temporarily copy the lossless RealTracks files comprising sets 254 to 277 and the 24 bonus Realtracks into a folder to see how much additional storage space is needed.

The updates in 2017 included more than that, though. Many RealTracks were re-recorded, but I don't know how to identify them.

True but that update is separate from the annual program release. I believe the only delivery for that update is over the internet.

I maybe putting words in fiddler2007's mouth but I understand his comment to be that he wishes there is an alternative way to deliver annual Audiophile edition updates other than the hard drive which incurs a high tax.

I think we all agree it's a good idea.

I thought the rerecorded RealTracks came with the new version 2017. But yes, I do agree it's a good idea.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
