Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the partmarker (usually 1a) at the beginning of a tune showing in leadsheet mode. I use a print screen editor to save my music from the leadsheet in pdf format, and as the partmarker sometimes conflicts with the best lyric height it would be usefull to remove it. Best regards, Keethen.

Keethen,

Welcome to the forums.

Under "Lead sheet | Opt" settings, it sounds like you have the bar numbers set to 'none'. This will remove all bar numbers and part markers except for 1A. As far as I'm aware, it is not possible to remove 1A.

If you print to pdf from within BIAB, the part markers are not printed on the lead sheet.

Also, it's possible to move the lyrics up/down, in the "Lead sheet | Opt | Notation | Lyric Position" settings. Negative number will move the lyric position one way and positive numbers the other.

Hope this helps,
Noel

I agree with Noel that the part marker on bar 1 is somehow fixed. I'm sure there has been requests in the past to remove it.

Hi
Many thanks for those responses. Although a 'newbie' to the forum I've been using BB since version 7 and I agree that there does not seem to be a way of removing the 1a partmarker. The reason I thought I'd ask the question is that I've noticed that two pieces of music (one entered by myself in BB, the other I think came from the Folk tunes included in BB), whilst having a 1a partmarker in the main screen, DOES NOT have one in Leadsheet view. I've done my best to find out if the settings are different in any way but have not succeeded yet!

Thanks again,

Keethen

Welcome.

I never noticed this, as I use other software for printing and I'm no expert on the BIAB print settings. But it does seem like an annoyance that could be changed.

Just curious, have you tried the free notation program, MuseScore? It can import a BIAB file, chords and all.

Thanks Matt. I might look at that but the system I use now seems to work and I can edit out the partmarker before taking a cropped print screen using PicPick (free). The quality is good & I just use Word to build up a tunebook arranged in sets. If I do find out why the pieces without partmarkers are different I'll post it here. Keethen

I just fooled around with this. There is a checkbox in File, Print, More that says to include the printing of A/B part markers. I think if this if NOT checked, the part marker at measure one should not be printing (but it is). The B part marker DOES disappear...

I'm going to send this to the developers and ask about it.

I'm not sure that I understand. I don't get part markers on any of my print-outs. Here's an example of one of my charts.

What's your secret, Ray?

I did get rid of the patch names: Options, Preferences, Notation, uncheck 'Display Patch Names on Notation'

But I still see "1B" on my chart.

Keethen,

As I mentioned in my post above, even though the 1A part marker appears on-screen in leadsheet view, it does not appear in a pdf printout if that printout is done within BIAB. (This behaviour can be see using "Print Preview" within the "Print" dialogue window.)

Have you tried printing directly to a pdf driver rather than printing from the screen?

I don't use the "Print to PDF" button within BIAB's print dialogue. I have Bullzip PDF printer installed on my system and I use that. All I do is to select it as my printer when printing. A number of users on here also use Cute PDF print driver to do the same thing.

Hope this helps,
Noel

I never tried actually printing, because I assumed the print preview would match the printout. Are you saying that’s not the case? Or that different PDF printers handle it differently?

Matt,

The below screenshots show what I get for the different possibilities using the same SGU file.

Ok, your print preview and pdf printout match, and presumably match the actual real printed page.

Thanks Noel. Just to say I generally do not print music - mostly use my laptop & PDF's. I'm reasonably happy using the method I mentioned above but not having to edit the '1a' would be good if it was available. My question really is about why I have a couple of pieces of BB music that don't have any partmarkers at all in leadsheet view, even though they have exactly the same settings as all the others that do, in Notation Windows Options & Lead Sheet Options. Beginning to look as though it might just be a fluke/quirk. Cheers, Keethen

Question: is the difference that some songs have one chorus, versus others that have more than one?

In Print Options - Show Bar #s - None. Hope this is what you need.

Yep, that did it, at least for me. I can sometimes look at those dialogs and not see something right in front of me. Thanks.

Of course, this removes the Part Marker and the Bar Numbers which may not be desirable.

All sorted! When you have a lead in note the partmarker is not shown. Regards, Keethen

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
