Ha!

I'm very lucky: my wife is also a professional musician, and she buys just as much gear as I do. We also can share a lot, like PA stuff of various sizes. Plus, I do all her arrangements using BIAB and other software, so I need good computer music gear. Or so she thinks...

Kudos to Turner Classic Movies for sponsoring the Young Film Composers Competition. Creating soundtracks for silent movies is a brilliant idea. I'm sure the composers believe the opportunity to receive mentoring from Hans Zimmer is better than the cash award. I'm also sure the composer's family would disagree with that assessment.

Unfortunately it seems TCM no longer sponsors the competition. The last time I can find the competition occurred was 2010. The article was written in 2005.

I'm lucky too.

My wife is my duo partner and she plays guitar, synth and is an outstanding singer.

A couple of years ago she saw the ad for a Parker Dragonfly guitar, and she told me: "You need a better guitar. I know you like my Parker and this one looks good. Maybe you should try one."

But having a wife musician is a problem. There is nobody to control our GAS laugh

I have sold some of my old stuff though. Not because she asked me to, but because I can't stand to see an instrument lay around and never get played anymore.

I am extremely lucky also. Although my wife is not a professional musician she has never stopped me from either playing out, teaching or buying new equipment. However I only buy new stuff if I can afford it. I know that the house, bills, clothing and food come first but I can take any money that I make teaching and do as I want with it. I hope to start teaching again this fall as I have GAS.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Interesting observation. Makes me wonder how the term sexist applies to a gay male couple. If one partner objected to the musician half buying more gear, that would be a male miffed at a male.....

The spouse I had in my early music years (that was 2.0) understood why I needed more gear far better than I understood why she needed 86 pairs of shoes, exactly the number she had when we parted ways.

The difference for you Notes is that you are literally buying tools for your work. I was up as high as 8 keyboards and 7 guitars, and I don't play in a band! SERIOUS case of GAS. Almost to the point where if I had friends they would have arranged a GAS intervention!

I don't want to count the number of instruments I have now, much less count the ones I have ever bought.

I feel the same way about my wife. In fact our kids and her have purchased 5 guitars, 1 bass and one 6 string banjo as presents for me!

Nice!
My wife has bought me only one guitar, but it's a special one. I was born the same year that Leo came out with the Fender Strat (1954), and in 2004 she bought me a 50th anniversary special edition strat deluxe for my 50th birthday. Pretty sweet guitar!

Yes tools but also toys. It's nice to make a living with my toys.

But I try not to buy much more than I need. What makes me feel the best is gigging with the instrument, not owning it. The energy from the audience flowing through me and back to them is the rush.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
