Hi casak,

Just google/bing free SFZ sounds and you will find a lot of them. Also google/bing free SF2 sounds as they can load also.

good luck

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Just drag the sfz, sf2 into Sforzando, then you can access the menu to load a sf2, to add sfz to the band in a Box menu you need to edit the C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\Band-in-a-Box Sounds.bank.xml .

I did what you said. If in the menu I choose a instrument unfortunately ALL MIDI tracks of my song are performed with that instrument. :-((

You need to load the sforzando vst into each midi track then set each midi track to the sfz instrument you want.
If you set sforzando as Default Synth all the midi tracks will play through the one sfz instrument.

If you use VSTSynthFont (1.096 / 2.096) - VST instrument instrument as the default, that will load any sf2/gig GM or load a different SF2 GM for each track giving you more control over the sound as it's hard to find an SF2 GM that is perfect.

Free sf2

You can use Polyphone to create an SF2 GM set from the Band-in-a-Box Sounds SFZs.

What Pipeline said but I will amplify a just little, and make a suggestion if you only want to use soundfonts (SF2's/SFZ's), and free ones at that.

more explanation about Sforzando, it is NOT a multitimbral VSTi or device. That means, as you now know, each instance of Sforzando can only play one sound at a time no matter how many MIDI channels it receives notes from. BIAB instruments all come into Sforzando (when it is the "default" VSTi) on different MIDI channels with the default MIDI channels being, for example, channel 2 for bass; channel 3 for piano; ... channel 10 for drums.

Now if you want to use a multi-timbral soundfont player there are only a few few left out in the vast WWW wasteland. I won't waste your time and list all the "moldy-goldy" ones that are essentially impossible to find, or send you on wild goose chase to try and find them, it's pointless they aren't around anymore.

Here are TWO, both free that can be easily found. Note, they behave differential from each other

First one is one Pipeline mentioned, Coolsoft’s Virtualmidisynth - it acts like an external MIDI HW module and you would select it as a "MIDI output driver" and the UNCHECK the “use VSTi/DXi synth"” box in the "options - > MIDI/Audio Drivers setup" in BIAB.

Second one, installs and is a VSTi, just like and similar to Sforzando, called "VSTsynthfont" It uses .sf2 files (not .sfz files) but it is a 16 channel multitimbral VSTi soundfont player. Get the free one at middle of page under heading

“VSTSynthFont (1.096 / 2.096) - VST instrument”

Suggestion stick with the 32-bit only version for use at least within BIBA/RB. That suggestion has nothing to do with having JBridge or not having it. It is becasue you won’t find any GM .sf2 over 4GB (not even by half) out there so why hassle with bridging.

http://www.synthfont.com/Downloads.html

A very good GM soundfont to use, that has grown on me over last 8 months or so, recommend to me by our own John Ford, is one called: “Reality GM 31 MB soundfont.SF2”

However, in a very quick search I could only find one site but that site wanted a donation to download. I know you can find it out here somewhere without paying. But if/when you do find that .sf2 you will probably need a utility called sfark to uncompress it, see

https://musescore.org/en/node/126156

If you can't find "“Reality GM 31 MB soundfont.SF2” don't lose sleep - there are other GM soundfont files around that are good.

Good Luck
Larry

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
