There are times something unexpected happens and the Band-in-a-Box settings change. In some instances the user is not even aware that settings have changed but instead discovers the program no longer responds as expected. Since the user suspects, but does not know a setting changed the user likely will spend a long time blindly hunting through the settings without knowing what setting needs to be reset. Finally the user will perform one or more "RETURN TO FACTORY SETTINGS" resets to get the program to respond as expected.
My idea is to have a file that lists all user programmable settings. The file should name each settings and provide the factory default and user setting for each all global (program) and song project (song specific) user accessible setting.
The user should be able to obtain a printout of all user accessible settings.
The user should be able to import or export all user accessible settings into or out of a spreadsheet program. This will allow the user to maintain and backup their personal configuration.
The user should be able to load a settings file into Band-in-a-Box, exit and restart the program and all user accessible settings be "refreshed" similar to the way a Windows operating system is refreshed by a warmstart.

A solid +1 for this, Jim.
I modify such a file for Firefox and for SONAR, as examples.
We had a question today in which it is unclear if Return to Factory Settings actually reset that particular checkbox. This proposed system should remedy that because the assumption is that only user-changeable settings would be listed; the corollary is that all such user settings could be reset to defaults (preferably listed in this list). Sorry - thinking as a programmer here.

Jim, this is a great idea, especially for those of us who set up BiaB to meet our needs. If we had such a list we could write in what our settings preferences are then see if they have changed. If not we could search the other preference settings.

I’m not being snarky with this comment, but doing this would allow analysis of the multiple places that a particular setting can be changed. It could be used as the basis to reconsider revisions to the menu system and dialog boxes.

I'm marking this wishlist request as resolved.
The Band-in-a-Box "Options" > "Save Preferences File ..." and "Options" > "Open Preferences File ..." commands essentially save user settings.
However, it would still be nice to have a command to print the settings.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
