Hi folks,

I don't record vocals too often (and don't want to go down hanging up a blanket or duvet route) but just wondered if anyone on here uses one of these inexpensive reflection filters.

AFMS filter

Doesn't seem to cost the earth and probably fairly light in weight which will balance better on a mic stand.

Wonder if any of you use the above?
Thanks

I have a similar one called CAD VocalShield VS1:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/cad-vocalshield-vs1-foldable-stand-mounted-acoustic-shield

Although it lists for $99 USD you can either wait for a sale or from here for $49 USD:

https://www.dealsofamerica.com/CAD-VocalShield-VS1-Foldable-Stand-Mounted-Acoustic-Shield/348390.htm

I like this one because it has a sturdy back while the one you listed looks like just foam, but I could be wrong.

Anyway yes this has helped my vocal recordings tremendously. If your room is untreated then a unit like this is mandatory if you are going to record vocals. YMMV

I actually made one out of a piece of 15" laptop packaging foam and a piece of plastic wall treatment stuff I had left over from making a splash shield behind my stove. Made a wooden frame, bent the plastic, screwed it onto the wooden frame, then glued the pieces of foam to it. I needed to do that rather then buy one because I wanted it to be wider to accommodate my linebacker shoulders. I mounted it to a wooden platform I had previously built to support a speaker. I can step right up into it and it is a very dead space to record vocals. I also found that if I laid a blanket across the top it was totally dead in there. Of course it was also totally dark in there so I had to either memorize lyrics or hang a little puck light in there to see the paper....

It worked for me because I am such a widebody. If you are a slimline, you'll be fine with that one pictured. I just didn't want to spend $100 on one. (Cheap Slovenian!)

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Thanks Mario and Eddie,

Mario can't see that one on any site across the pond here, but seems kinda similar to this one.

hope they are easy enough to attach to mic stand and not topple over.

Thanks again.

I use a competing product, the SE Reflexion Filter. It works quite well, but you have to be careful adjusting then tightening the filter on your mic stand, or it will fall over.

Yes, the one you have listed here is almost identical to the one the I have. Mine is just from a different manufacturer, maybe. I would purchase this over the first one you listed.

You should have no problems if you have a sturdy mic stand. Mine is on a boom section of my mic stand. I have used the boom at an angle to record an acoustic guitar with no problems. My mic stand is an old one with be heavy round base.

On a side note I would also get, if you don't have one already, a pop screen.

Good luck.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
