Always looking to tweak my system...sometimes to the point of failure...was wondering what the Forum's thinking is with WIN 10 and processor scheduling.
With previous version of Windows, it seem that the thinking was to favor processor scheduling by setting priority to background services. However, with faster multi core 64 bit systems running Win 10 has this thinking changed and the scheduling should now be set to favor foreground programs?

My limited reading about this agrees with what you are thinking: setting it to Background is an older suggestion (hack) whose time may have come and gone.

The good folks over at Focusrite and Sweetwater still seem to think setting it to "background" is a good idea even in Win 10 and current gen processors:
But I remember reading over at Sonar forums (or was it elsewhere, maybe Cubase?), when Win 10 first came out that the staff tech geeks at one of those places, after much "cooperation" with MS in early testing (so it probably was Sonar) was essentially:
"six of one, half a dozen of the other"
But now I can't find THAT recommendation or discussion thread now so...

A lot of this depends on what you're doing. When I read other DAW forums there are folks there who are doing stuff most of us here never think of. Like doing orchestral soundtrack arrangements running 100 instruments (many are the same instrument with different takes grouped on comp tracks for example) with a ton of effect plugins. This is done by running several different high end synths and plugins all at once streaming multiple gigs of samples. If you're doing that kind of thing you need a $3,000 killer system tweaked perfectly. There are vids showing stuff like this, it's amazing to watch but also completely irrelevant to what we're involved with here.
Coming down to the world where 99% of us live we do things like using Biab to generate 4 or 5 instrument tracks, throwing them into RB or another DAW and maybe adding another 5 parts with a few effects. We may have some vocal comp tracks too. That's so far from the other world I doubt if any of these tweaks matter at all.

Well, yesterday i've been accidentally comparing a few BIAB WMA style demo's and got the feeling when i generate a similar arrangement, PGs' stuff sounds better in regards of timing. Are they using a such a powerful and/or tweaked system, have these WMA files been extensively edited in a DAW, or am i crazy LoL.
Most commercial pro studios doing audio use a Pro Tools system running on a Big Mac, or with Final Cut for video the same. For a reason? One ICT pro friend, who has a small studio as side line business, still uses some old Windows server based Cubase SX or 5 based computer. No internet on that about 10 years old machine running rock solid, and the stuff he brings out on CD's sounds OK. He is certainly not a fan of the current Windows versions around for serious audio work. Tweak along 'till you can tweak no further, or pray for a skimmed Windows 10 light without all those gimmicks at least i have never asked for .... -F

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
