I am having issues getting the demo styles to play in the style picker dialogue window...click on the play icon and it just sits there...using the latest version of RealBand...
I noticed you don't post often so this must have you puzzled pretty good.
The StylePicker has two playback buttons; Play and the green triangle.
"Play" tells the program to read the chord sheet, load the instruments listed in the highlighted style and playback the chord sheet. There are modifiers to shorten the chord sheet to four bars, set the playback tempo and load the demo song instead of the chord sheet.
Green triangle starts playback of a PG Music demonstration song for the highlighted style. The program first searches for the demonstration song on the computer hard drive at the Data\Style Demos Audio folder of your RealTracks folder (usually c:\bb\RealTracks\Data\Style Demos Audio and then on the Internet at www.pgmusic.com. Although some of the demos are on the hard dive not all of them are included to save storage space.
PG Music has a 6.5 GB file of all the demonstration songs released up to January 23, 2015. The download is available +++ here +++. The download file is also available as a collection of smaller files. I made a wish list request for demonstration files released during 2016 and 2017 be added. The wish list request is +++ here +++ if you want to support the request.
All demonstration songs playback on the built-in operating system media player. Some versions of Windows 8 and 10 do not include a media player. Instead the media player is available as a free download from Microsoft.
So I suspect you may not have the demonstration songs stored at the correct location on your hard drive, may not have downloaded the optional demonstration files, demonstration files may not have been released by PG Music for the styles you are examining or your operating system doesn't have a media player to playback the demonstration songs.
RB does use whatever the Windows default playback device is (not the driver selected in Audio Prefs area) for this feature. That's where I'd look first, as in what happens if you just double-click a file in File Explorer that is an audio file; does Windows play it, or is some other app invoked?

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
