I hadn't seen any posts from Guenter lately, so I sent him a PM.

Here's his reply (posted with permission) including a link to a video of his resurrected 60s band:

Quote:
thanks a lot for your interest. Yes, I'm fine.
I'm doing live music again with my old pals from 1966. That means I don't work with BiaB at the moment. But I'm still lurking on the forum.
If you want to see me in action, here is a link:

http://www.lehrer.uni-karlsruhe.de/~za2187/musik/Beans%20Optimized.mp4

I am the hidden bass player in the background.
I hope you are doing fine, too.

You'll have to cut and paste the link since I don't think there's a media tag for MP4 video

(Did the video run for you? It is just spinning for me)

Guenter, you are missed.

It did run for me. In fact, I just tried it again, and it ran again.
It's been my experience that connections to transatlantic websites hosted on small servers tend to take longer to connect.

Plus, as an MP4 file (not a streaming format) you'll probably have to wait for the whole file to DL before it will start playing. (as opposed to streaming formats which start playing as soon as the stub file is downloaded)

Thanks Pat for the update. I always enjoyed Guenter's avatar, the way he changed it with the seasons. In fact I had a few PM's with him about it, and also his location which is close to a town in Germany I had visited several times.

Glad he's doin' just great.

Hi Pat, Floyd, Janice & Bud, Kenny, and Trevor,

it's a nice feeling to be remembered on this forum and even missed. Thanks a lot for that. I miss you, too. But you can't have your cake and eat it.
As for the video: in google chrome, firefox, tor und edge it will be played immediately.
Internet explorer needs about 2 minutes to download.

Guenter, before you slip out the back door, please tell us a little about the events that led to your 60s band reuniting. Are you playing much?

What was the event shown in the video? Was it specifically about your band, or were you part of a bigger presentation about the 60s which involved many bands?

And OF COURSE we miss our friends when we don't see them in a while! So I hope you'll stay in touch to whatever extent is possible given your new activities!

Hi Pat,

our singer used to be a teacher in a school for disabled children. His colleague (now our lead guitarist who is still working at this school) had the idea to plan a revue for the 50th anniversary of the school only with songs of 1966, where all the pupils and teachers of the school could take part. So he asked us to play 14 titles for the show while the school band played three titles.
We played the show two times.
Because it was so much fun my friends and me decided to carry on. So we are practising different titles (Long Train Running (Doobie Brothers, Simply The Best (Tina Turner), For Sentimental Reasons (Nat King Cole), Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Dialogue (Chicago), Smooth Operator (Sade)
Spinning Wheel (Blood Sweat And Tears), I heard it through the grapevine (Marvin Gaye)) and we are going to keep some of the old ones.
We'll have a gig in December and two gigs in May next year.
It shouldn't be more because it shouldn't be stressful.
As I already said I'm still lurking on the forum and I'm always delighted when there is a new song by one of my favorites.

Guenter

thanks for the interesting background information on your band's resurrection, Guenter! I'm sure a lot of us here would like to resurrect our old bands! If I didn't live in a different state, I'd definitely be reconnected with old band buddies in one way or another.

Best of luck to you and your band mates! Break a leg (but not literally)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
