Hi all,

I usually just use he straight Bebop and Swing type real tracks. I've been learning the Wes Montgomery tune OGD (Road Song). Has anyone found real tracks similar to the groove on the Wes - Jimmy Smith recording?

This kind of stuff is called jazz boogaloo, sort of a old school funky latin feel. There isn't a style that I'm aware of for this but it's a good suggestion. The thing about RT styles is they're not fixed like the midi styles are. With midi the style elements are actually created by the author or user so you could create this in midi perfectly. Of course then you lose the sound quality of the RT's. But midi can sound really good with a high quality synth to play them.

RT styles are really not styles at all. Since RT's are prerecorded audio tracks you can't change anything but there are so many of them now that I think it's possible to put some together to get close to this. Or, maybe a midi/RT hybrid style.

I play Road Song using BIAB as a backing track.

Currently I use _BOSORGS (Bossa Organ Soloist with band)
I mute the Organ solo & dial back both the b3 and the guitar.
Perhaps not perfect but its a decent groove.

If you dig Wes,check out Grant Green's "The Latin Bit". Its a killer.
His version of My Little Suede Shoes knocks me out.

Good luck.

Hi,
I came to this discussion rather late...
I've been using the -ZAWINUL.STY which I rather like.
What do you all think?

Not at my PC but maybe it’s an underscore rather than hyphen?

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Yes, it's in the 'Misc.' set, it's MIDI from November 2006. Spelling is correct.

Still interested to know what the O/P ultimately decided on.

Hi,
Not sure what set it's in.
I'm on annual leave at the moment so can't access BIAB
I recall that it's actually a mix of MIDI and RT.
I've been using it for a long time so... older

My last reply hasn't appeared...
Currently away from my BIAB... I've been using this style for ages so it probably isn't a Real Style.

Yes, agree. I spent a fair bit of time searching and trying lots of styles to try to help. It would be great if the O/P's solution was shared.

Here is what I found. This works enough to play against, though not ideal by any means.

Bass: Electric Pop Sw 120
Organ Rythum B3 Rhythm Jazz SW 140
Drums: Bossa/Brushes full
Guitar: Electric, rhythm Bossa EV 140

Thanks all of you for your ideas!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
