Topsy-Turvy World A new one - Leon's obviously been reading too many news articles! Vocal & Lyrics Leon I played the electric guitars and sang a bit. The Band:RealTracks in style: ~1546:Bass, Electric, CountrySwing Sw 085 RealTracks in song: 2543:Pedal Steel, Background ModernCrossover Sw16 090 RealTracks in style: ~530:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Hank Sw 085 RealTracks in style: ~970:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingCleanPedal Sw 085 RealTracks in song: ~689:Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 085 RealDrums in style: PopShuffleSlow^01-a:Closed Hat, Snare, b:Open Hat, Snare Topsy –Turvy WorldEverything’s been said Still you keep on talking Every place been reached Still you keep on walking Everything I know Someone knew already Every pose I strike A little more unsteady Try to tell the truth They tell me it’s subjective Say that I’ve got proof They say my reasoning’s defective The winners tell the story To the victors go the spoils The serpent has the hostages Hidden in his coils Who’ll set them free? Who will release them? From the tyranny Of this topsy-turvy worldEveryone I know agrees Our polity is toxic Make a thing nobody needs And every outlet stocks it Echoes in the chamber That’s all that I am hearing Bankers on the beachfront Negatively gearing Corporations growing fat Like tics upon a carcass Eye each other up and down To see whose suit’s the sharpest The rich are getting richer And the rest of us are seething The lies are almost planet-sized That some folks are believing Who’ll set us free? Who will release us? From the tyranny Of this topsy-turvy worldSee my neighbours packing up To move to higher ground I hear what they are saying But I think I’ll stick around Darling is it true? That it’s all a simulation There’s some things for which that would be A useful explanation But when you kiss me at the door And say I have to go I can’t believe the way I feel Is just a line of code I watch the flowers blooming Listen to the magpies call Try not to think too much About the meaning of it all Who’ll set us free? Who will release us? From the tyranny Of this topsy-turvy world[Repeat chorus]

Peter, Leon`s very sharp lyrics are front and centre here ( too many cool ones to quote!) and he delivers them well with a nice deadpan twist. I like the doomy sounding riffs you play and that double tracked slide guitar at the close. An enjoyable musical reality-check!

Hi Peter & Leon,
I agree with the deadpan delivery of this - good choice for the lyric. And the guitar intonation is a perfect fit. This may seem somewhat of a stretch but I can hear Leon Redbone tearing this one up! He's slightly more deadpan in his usual delivery but I can still hear him doing it.
But, you gentlemen did a super job on it in all respects. Nice work!

Cool song! Great lyrics, I love lyrics that make you think a little. Lots of great lines, I think my favorite is: "I can’t believe the way I feel Is just a line of code" Nice playing in the outro too.

This was awesome! It makes me think of a country-fied version of Pink Floyd, almost. The backing tracks are dark and menacing, and really drew me in. Great lyrics, great mood, and just overall a great tune! Thanks so much for sharing

Great vocals and lyrics backed by some excellent dark tracks. Great guitar work and mix.
Two thumbs up.

Love the lyric and, man, the rhymes are amazing. If I had that gift of rhyme I might attempt to write more!
"Darling is it true? That it’s all a simulation There’s some things for which that would be A useful explanation"
I hope not but.....
You two had some great symbiosis going here with the establishment of the dark vibe and it really worked.
The fine vocal performance and guitar are iced with the engaging production.
Excellent!

Peter, this is really an interesting song! I kept trying to pin the style to a particular artist but couldn't. Maybe a little Beatlesque in places (primarily Lennon) but to me its rather unique. Those chord changes in the verses are really attention grabbing! Everthing sounds great! Thanks, Torrey

Hello, Peter
Very cool song! Excellent vocals! The guitar riffs of the minor cliché (F#m - F#mmaj7 - F#m7- F#mmaj7) is producing a unique mood. The part which modulates to a major key in the middle of the song is also wonderful. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
