I realize the thread is about mastering but the time is going to come (and soon) whereby a plug-in will read all your raw tracks and using your supplied reference song create a mix that matches the reference by any metric you can imagine. I see it adding all the necessary effects to each track, pans, gains, etc., to achieve the goal. The computing power to achieve this likely resides in your mobile device. What’s left? More time to nail soulful heartfelt performances. Bring it on. grin

Yes, you are right Bud. That is certainly the direction Ozone seems to be heading.

Well, after many hours evaluating I went ahead and bought it. Lots of bang for the buck, currently on sale for $100, plus I got a $5 discount for registering an account with them.

At the moment I'm using it as a plug in module in an Ozone 7 session, last in the chain so that I can make use of the Digital Distribution Mastering function which is brilliant! The only Ozone module I used for my evaluation was the stereo Imager module.

Well worth checking, the demo is fully functional and is good for eight days.

rockstar_not,

Quote:
I use Final Mix less, using more channel strip plugin tweaked presets on individual channels but even with those, auditioning and experimenting with presets has been a boon.

For those of us that didn’t have any opportunity to learn in a studio, I’m not sure there’s a better way to learn these days.

The days of apprenticeships have almost come to an end. It is increasingly difficult, and expensive, to receive formal training at a working studio.

I agree with you that examining, studying and tweaking presets configured by a professional is a great way to learn how the components of a signal chain work in relation with each other.

I use LMC on most everything, almost daily. I do spend lots of time getting the mix to my liking, and just use LMC for final mastering. I have used Ozone and TRackS and a few others over the years, and they are capable of providing first class results. But LMC provides what I'm looking for much more quickly, which is important to me. I would not argue that a more nuanced mastering approach would not yield better results, but LMC is usually "good enough"...

Announcing…The Birth of a Song (w/Floyd Jane)

We are excited to announce the release of a new project: The Birth of a Song (w/Floyd Jane)

Songwriter Floyd Jane shows the songwriting process from inspiration to performance and publication: http://www.pgmusic.com/?vid=IYMMZVvQdCw

The idea for this project came about when many members on this forum and elsewhere were asking questions about the song writing process. There are many aspects, and many parts of it necessary to create a song, get it arranged, performed, and then published on the internet. So we asked the great songwriter Floyd Jane, who is a regular member on this forum, if he could help. Floyd agreed and was even able to collaborate with other forum members, Janice and Bud. The result is this video we put together that you can see on YouTube or Facebook, called "The Birth of a Song (w/Floyd Jane)".

We hope this video helps other songwriters with their songwriting process, and also shows them tools that are available to them along the way. Also, we mention this User Showcase Forum, and hope to see many new aspiring or accomplished songwriters join this community

A big Thank You to Floyd for sharing your knowledge with the community and making this possible. And to Janice and Bud for your great collaboration!

Here is Floyd's original forum post for his song "A Little Bit Of Me": http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=433190
