Noticed that build 506 improves some Oohs and Aahs RealTracks. Will this build replace the uncompressed audiophile RealTracks with (improved) compressed ones? Just curious. Really like the 2018 release... smile

That’s a good question.

From past practice, No. An update would affect only the WMA compressed files unless it is identified as an update for the audiophile version, or for both. PG Music typically takes an extra day or two to release an audiophile version update.

The ‘regular’ update wouldn’t actually do anything useful to your audiophile version anyway. If a WAV file is present, BIAB loads that. Only if there is no WAV file will BIAB load, uncompress and then use a WMA file, updated though it may be. The audiophile edition contains matching WMA files for each WAV file, but the WMA files aren’t used.

I will alert the developers to your question. In any event, I will know the answer tonight; my audiophile drive is on the UPS truck for delivery today! I can check what the patch does.

Hello Matt... New Audiophile owner/user here... Are the Audiophile updates you mentioned above announced/posted here in the BIAB Windows folder? I ask because I don't recall ever seeing a strictly Audiophile update link published here - but then again I've never had the Audiophile Edition before and may well have just skimmed past any Audiophile update links.

Typically if there is only a few RealTracks or RealDrums being updated both the uncompressed and compressed files are included in the update, if it's a major update there is a separate Realtrack update file for each. In this case it looks like the update to the Realtracks is minimal enough to warrant only one update file.

You can easily check by applying the update and then searching for WMA files in your Realtrack Directory, you should only see them in the Demo directories if you have the Audiophile version.

Rosion, I agree generally with your first paragraph but not the second. May I suggest you read through the article I wrote on this subject. It’s in the Tips and Tricks Forum, here: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=378939#Post378939

After running the 506 update, it doesn't appear that any of my audiophile "vocal" RealTracks were updated. The latest vocal files are dated 12/1/2017, as are many other RealTrack files. I have a combination of WAV, WMA and MP4 files in my RealTracks folders. Don't think it makes a difference, but I'm running the audiophile RealTracks from the BiaB hard drive at the moment.

We don’t know if the patch even affects the audio files, or if it was improved by other means.

It looks like there is only one RealTrack/RealDrums file that is added in build 506 it's a RealDrums file called WashboardBluegrass^_110_Style.wma or WashboardBluegrass^_110_Style.wav, the remaining audio files that are updated are demo files for the various new styles.

The patch is for any Band-in-a-Box 2018 version, 'audiophile' or not. If there were any wave file updates needed, those would be included as well. I think there was only one wave file to update. The Vocal fixes were ST2 fixes, audio files didn't change.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
