Is there a rhythm guitar style (not soloist) for Samba styles? I can’t seem to find anything that will fit----to add to piano, bass, and drums. Also, check this out----under the Real Tracks Picker Dialog, go to Guitar, Nylon, Soloist Samba, EV 190 (Bluesy) and see what you get with the demo. I get a western swing example, not Samba. I’m using the 2017 version at the moment.

This is something I requested years ago, but surprisingly the Bossa 140 guitar tracks adapt to BIAB samba tempos. BIAB considers sambas to be a fast 4/4 at tempos around 200 bpm. I prefer to think of them as cut time at 100 bpm. The remarkable thing is that, with their ability to play at normal, half or double time, RealTracks and RealDrums can adjust automatically. Now, with the improved Elastique algorithm, the adjustments sound better than ever. Try it.

I´m from Brasil and at first I was very well impressed about BIAB possibilities. After some time as a user I finally quit using BIAB due to its 2/4 incompability. Playing bossa nova nylon guitars in 2/4 time melodies sounds like... bossa nova. To me its very weird the lack of efforts in developing samba RT. I came back to this forum after three or four years hoping to see some good news...it´s a pity.

Ivan, can you be specific about what you would like? There may be a way to do it.

There has been an important development. There was a critical improvement a year ago that I requested for exactly this purpose: you can now adjust the RealDrums for half or double-time. RealTracks had this control for years, but not RealDrums; you had to hope the program's own adjustment would work, but now you can control the drums much better.

We've already established that BIAB treats sambas as 4/4 at a tempo twice that of how I would count it in 2. That's annoying when entering a leadsheet of a Brazilian song. But tell me exactly what you want to do, what you are trying and what doesn't work. Either we can figure out how to make it work, or the failure will make the request to improve BIAB that much more clear.

Thanks Mark for the quick reply. I would like BIAB had RT string instruments dedicated to samba, like samba guitars, 7 chords guitar sounding like the famous player Dino 7 Cordas maybe a "cavaquinho".

Oh - OK, I misunderstood your request. Yes, those instruments would be great. I used Romero Lubambo on my album, and he frequently plays the cavaquinho. Lovely sound.

You should make a post in the Styles Wishlist, and I will support it. Go here: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=6&page=1

EDIT: I just saw this post there, which for some reason I never saw before: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showthreaded&Number=144466

One thing that is most helpful to PG Music is giving examples, and recordings and songs that demonstrate the sound.

I have a couple of MIDI Samba styles at http://www.nortonmusic.com/styledemo.html#ss and a few jazz sambas elsewhere on that page.

I understood from (Noel?) that Realband is better at handling different beat counts per measure.

there are some nice samba (?) midi files here, samba , and maybe some one can convert something properly?

PS i've been looking briefly again at what (MIDI only) Soundtrek Jammer 6 has to offer. In regards of beatcount settings quite more, but it has some drawbacks. F.i. you're stuck with Microsoft's wavetable synth, and you can't address a VST GM synth simply for sounds, unless you use a router like MidiLoopback etc. So maybe interesting if you use a hardware GM sound module .... Jammmer is not very expensive, though IMO it's a little complicated to understand the interface, and has far less to offer in the styles department. They seem to be working on a general overhaul; i am still curious, as its really fast and responsive. F

Jammer is doing an overhaul?

This could be interesting. I wrote some styles for Jammer decades ago, and all the instruments were quantized to a grid. If the newer editions have gone 'off grid', I'd be interested in taking a new look.

Soundtrek is down. 99% of my demos are all mp3 files now, so they should work. All the files on the demo page and individual style disks are mp3 now, a couple of the intro/ending MIDI disks are the only ones left to convert.

I've updated numerous fake disks but not the style disks.

I've often thought about updating the styles taking advantage of the improvements made to Band-in-a-Box and the StyleMaker, but the massive amounts of time wouldn't be cost effective. I sometimes spend 50-100 hours on a style, tweaking it to get the most out of various of test chord progressions to make sure the styles will work in the most varied situations. They have my name on them, so they have to be as good as I can make them.

So instead of spending hundreds of hours redoing old styles to get perhaps 2% better results, I'll spend that time making new styles.

BTW, I've received a few nice compliments about the Samba styles from people living in Brazil. There are a lot of Brazilian people living in South Florida and I learned from a few of the musicians. The problem is adapting the knowledge to overcome the limitations of Band-in-the-Box, which although it is the best auto-accompaniment app out there by far, still has it's brick walls. For example, not real time signatures, so I might have two 2/4 or 2/2 bars of music in one 4/4 cell of BiaB. The audio results are the same, but the notation doesn't look right.

Insights and incites by Notes.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
