Up until now the "Unfold/Expand" has served my purposes, but, yes, later on I'll deal with learning how to use the repeats, etc. But, for now, how do I go about changing a particular STYLE mid-song? Such as going from a straight beat from bars 1-9 to a swing feel bars 10-14? How do I do that??

Also, how do I change the time signature? Such as 9/8 time which is often used in African soukous music or 3/4 time? Has it to do with the F5 key?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the F5 key will allow you to change the Style. You need to start the song with the highest number of beats per bar that you will require, e.g. if you have a mixture of 3/4 and 4/4, then start with 4/4.

Select the bar that you want the style change to occur at and press F5 to select it (and other variations)

There are several available styles for 9/8, including 98_TURK.STY, 98ORK.STY, RealTracks Set 123 and Styles Set #8

Hope this helps

Hey there....

The way that I have accomplished both of the things you are describing in the past is to use one, or both of the following:

1. To insert additional "substyles" in your song, right-click on any bar **number** & select "Define c/d". The Style Select window will pop up enabling you to select/add any style on disk with the feel/time signature that you are looking for. You will now see that when you right-click on a bar number in the usual fashion to define "substyle a" or "substyle b", there is now a "c" & "d" available.
There will also now be a new option available to "Define e/f". You can keep adding "substyles" in this manner up to a maximum of ??? (meaning that I have only ever gone as far as "g/h").
and/or
2. Right-click **inside** the desired target bar (where you want the change) & select "Bar Settings". The pop up window will offer different options to insert (at **that** bar number) Style changes & Time Signature changes, along with a lot of other options.
Note that most of the changes you make there remain in effect for the rest of the song unless/until you perform the same procedure in a subsequent bar changing it back (or to something else).
These changes get saved with your song.

There may be better ways to achieve your goal, but this is what I do.
Creating/editing/saving your own user styles is a whole different tutorial (and usually involves a bunch of trial & error, for me confused )

Good luck!
Ciao,

Rina

Do the time signature changes in a song work for real tracks? It seems I've only got it to work with midi.

Thanks!

Weslie,

Yes, they do work with RealTracks, make sure your tracks aren't frozen.

If you want to go from say 3/4 to 4/4, you must start with a 4/4 style and set it to 3 beats to the bar using the F5 function. This is a limitation of the program.

Also, even though the song may start in 3, you will get a 4/4 count-in. It's another long term limitation and one that many of us hope will be fixed in the next release.

But to answer your question: Yes, as long as you start with a style with the maximum number of beats that you require. Think of it like this: You can take one away, but you can't add one if it wasn't there in the first place.

Another way to look at it;
If a 3/4 track is used to create 4/4 realtracks, it can only take a 3/4 'bar' sample and add another beat, so you'll likely end up with an accent on 4 & 1 of each measure of the pattern (due to the extra beat being added). 123+1 123+1 123+1
This sounds 'off'

If you do the opposite;
A 4/4 track is used to create 3/4 realtracks, the 4th beat is removed and the accent continues on the 1 of each measure. 123 123 123
This sounds much more real. The first beat of a measure 'fits'.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks! For some reason this was not working for me. Do you need to add a new style or a 3/4 style as well when you change to 3 beats?

Just start with a 4/4 Style.
Click on the bar that you want to play in 3/4 (it may be the very first bar), press function key F5 or right-click and select Bar Settings from the context menu.
Change the number of beats to 3, Press OK.
Select the bar where you want to resume to 4/4 and repeat the process, but select 4.

Hi. Say I have a song that has 3 choruses. (with the repeat sign, l: :l)
Is it possible to change the style at the second chorus and go back to the original style at the 3rd chorus?

Regards,
Jazzutako

Of course, that is what F5 does.
