As a vocalist, the _JBALSAP is MY perfect style for solo piano accompaniment, but it is a RealTrack and doesn't seem to have midi data to export to midi. Would love to have this style available as midi so I can use it in my keyboard. I have gazillions of midi styles available, but none of the piano accompaniments are this good (even when I mute other instruments.)
Are there any workarounds I haven't thought of?
As for the second question, I think I heard that some of the Realtrack styles have midi data attached, but can't seem to figure out which ones from the Stylepicker window. If this is true, any advice?
Thanks in advance...
(Using BIAB 2018)

Janet -
Look in RealTracks picker to see if there is a "RealChart" associated with the piano instrument in that style (the Stylemaker should tell you the RT instrument number to look up).
You can then export the RealChart to MIDI to get the notes; however, I don't believe it will have the performance nuances (and I can't remember, but you may even have to go back in and set the velocities so you even get any sound - that's easily done in RealBand). Look up RealCharts in the help menu or in the PDF user guide.
I would look, but I'm not at my music machine right now.
Not all instruments have RealCharts, however, so be sure to check for it first.
And totally off topic, but it looks like you're just down the road from me off US-98. I'm in Pensacola and my wife and I travel occasionally to Panama City Beach to visit my mother-in-law.

Thanks, neighbor! It does show an "N" in the Realtracks dialog, so yes, looks like it does have a RealChart. I will have to do some more reading to figure out how to associate it. Hopefully, this will work. Update: I was able to create a midi file, but unfortunately, as you mentioned, nuance is lost and there is much missing from it. Will keep on working to this! Janet -

Supermidi tracks may also offer you something. Not much in the jazz solo accompaniment but they generate similar to RealTracks and can be edited like regular midi.

Well, I not sure what I did, but I went back to the original file (was working on copy for above experiment) and I WAS able to export an exact midi file using that style. I had tried 3 or 4 times, but kept getting files that were empty except for the click track. I think it may have been changing preferences under Realtracks to check the box that said "Save Realcharts in Midi Files." So appreciate all the advice! Here is a link to this track. I will be adding the vocals later. Jam for Kevin Mahogany (backing track)

If I recall correctly, all keyboard RealTracks now do have notation (N), but as John mentioned, the quality of that notation may not have the performance nuances that make it suitable for playback as only MIDI. My understanding is this depends on how they were recorded. Some RealTracks were recorded on keyboards that capture velocity, attack, aftertouch, etc. but others were just recorded then software analyzed the track and produced the MIDI. After all, the MIDI that you see in BIAB for RealTracks is only there for educational purposes, so you can see and study what is being played. Bottom line, if it also works for performance, consider yourself lucky.
In the early days of RealTracks, I was paid to transcribe RealTrack guitar and sax solos into MIDI. Others like me were also paid. I didn't turn mine in until I was satisfied that the MIDI in the left channel matched dead on with the RealTrack in the right channel.

... Update: I was able to create a midi file, but unfortunately, as you mentioned, nuance is lost and there is much missing from it. Will keep on working to this! Found that most related midi data for RTs data are not as to be expected compared to what's played live. Makes sense; the recorded musician should play a midi controlled device outputting the same data. Maybe you could check the MIDI supertrack collection if you have some, if there's a similar one to your liking; chances are that you'll find something useful. F

Hi all I seem to recall that the Piano Realstyles / tracks are more accurate in their midi notation, than some of the other voices .
This is because a special type of Yamaha piano is used . this plays real strings acoustically with hammers, and at the same time the keys have contacts and send out midi data to a midi interface and sockets.
The reasoning behind this is , that the piano also has an Audio stage, so for silent practice via headphones the hammers are lifted clear and do not strike the strings. However you can have both at the same time allowing Midi and audio recording simultaneously.
So note wise it should be a perfect match you don’t get the pedal information though. But it should contain velocity values from 0-127 normal midi note on note off pitch etc.
Hope this helps Mike

I was ultimately able to make a midi that was pretty much indistinguishable from the BIAB file when played. I'm glad that this style turned out to be one that plays well as a midi. ... Just as an alternative thought? Why not use the actual audio track instead? Either the keyboard or your amp will have an aux input. It will sound better, too...

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
