Greetings all,

I'm a new user to BiaB and purchased, installed and registered the 2018 Pro ( rel 508 ) just after the fat guy in the red suit left me a few bucks.

Having installed it and all of the addon packages the come with the rather badly misnamed Pro version and had a bit of a play I decided to upgrade to the Ultrapak while the special pricing is still in place and have received the confirmation and new serial / activation via email.

Having installed the BiaB Ultra? with Real Band that came with the new order I tried to activate with the Ultra serial No. and it said the program was already registered and when queried shows the Pro serial No..

I have gone to the download manager to pull down all of the files in the Ultrapak and find there to be very few with the total downloads being only 12.9G and I'm assuming this is to do with the serial.

What am I missing here, do I deactivate the Pro serial from my three current installs and reactivate with the Ultra serial or is it something more fundamental.

I assumed ( probably wrongly ) that the BiaB application that I installed would be upgraded to Ultra, but I am now thinking that the application is the same across all version and it's only the add on packs that differ and these only become visible to the download function once the correct serial is activated.

Probably answered my own question but I'd rather ask before knocking the app around too much

Welcome to the forums.

It's possible that the upgrade might have a different registration, but the people who can accurately answer are PG Music.

You could email their support contact.

Also, log on to your account at the PG Music main web site (see My account at the top) and check your list of registered products.

Were you supplied a serial number with the upgrade?

As I recall from last year I had to download the BIAB then run the install again then add the serial number for the UltraPak. It then found my 100gig or so of downloads. The real trick was to let the download manager do the job rather than trying to do it manually.

Hi VT,

Thanks for the prompt reply, there is indeed a different serial for each and they are shown thus in My Products.

BiaB Pro had 15 files for a total size of 20.1Gb and the Ultra version list well over a hundred so something is amiss.

Bottom line BiaB upgrade doesn't appear to function in the same way as most of my other apps when I upgrade them

Well that's weird, I deactivated and then uninstalled BiaB the reinstalled and went to activate with the new serial No. and it tells me it's already activated with the old Pro serial.

Well I'm totally baffled and just about run out of swear words ( and wine )

I deactivated and deleted BiaB Pro and all it's related components from the PC, yet again including the folder on the large aux drive that I had installed it on.

Then emptied the recycle bin, ran a clean up on the PC to get rid of redundant files and then a cleanup on the registry to get rig of any unused .dll's etc.

Ran a fresh install, clicked on activate and it rather rudely informed me that it was already activated.

Great news one might think, except it's still the effing Pro version and not the Ultra.

I'll write to PG for support and also link this thread for the reference

Dave,

I've reported your activation experiences and this thread to the development team.

Something strange seems afoot.

In the meantime, I encourage you to send an email to support@pgmusic.com and briefly outline the problem. Also include the URL of this thread in that email.

For the subject... I'd go with something like... "Very frustrated customer! BIAB UltraPak will not activate."

Regards,
Noel

Hi

I had a similar problem with ser numbers last year.
As I purchased a pack with not much more in it than what I had by mistake .
PG credited me for this and I paid the difference and downloaded an upgrade to a more suitable pack.
Like you I had problems with the ser no being for my first purchase.
Seem to be some thing odd if you upgrade twice in short period.
Under the guidance of PG support and live chat I had to edit my public ticket in windows with the correct serial no.
You need to contact them for exact details, as I would not want to put you wrong,
Playing with your tickets,
Mike

Proceed at your own risk.
I assume you know to make a copy of each file affected and save them as a backup.
Always copy them and stash them somewhere so you can put them back as needed.

In C:\bb\Data\TicketsActivated
There should be a TXT file with your BiaB serial number.
Band-in-a-Box_SerialNumber_bb2018_full.txt

Which serial number appears in this file? PRO or Ultra?

From here you decide how experimental you want to get, but it may be a clue.

Hello Dave,

To fix this, close Band-in-a-Box (and the download manager) and edit the file C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Band-in-a-Box_SerialNumber_bb2018_full.txt so that it has the correct serial number.

Thanks Andrew,

That has sorted it on the PC but the laptop not so good and all of my own making.

I very cleverly figured that if I deactivate and totally uninstall including registry clean up I could do a fresh install which I did.

The problem now is that it says some features disabled due to deactivation so I will be jumping onto live chat to get it sorted.

Sorted on the Laptop, I reactivated on the old licence and then amended the licence file to Ultra Pack.

Thanks one and all for your prompt replies which allowed me to work my way through it.

Not quite there yet Noel because of the download speed ( don't mention the NBN :-) )

PC is at 55% down and the laptop at 11% but we'll get there.

The speed might be a bit frustrating but the knowledge that 90.1G is coming down instead of 20 is most satisfying

On ADSL that dropped regularly @ 7meg max it took me over 3days to get it all. That is where the download manager was handy. The couple of gig the other day took only minutes over NBN. On NBN I actually get the 25meg I pay for with no issues.

I'm not on the NBN but have Optus HFC which has been fine.

The 90 gig download came down and installed over night on the PC but the laptop is still going due to space issues, I had to move a heap of stuff off and uninstall a couple of non critical apps, all of which can and will go back post install

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
