How can I enter 32nd notes in the midi notation window? It only gives me the option for 16th notes.
Thanks! Bernie

Unfortunately, you can only enter up to 16th notes on notation; however, you can definitely go into the event list and manually input the notes by doing the math. Where you put the notes depends upon you MIDI resolution settings.

Divide by two to get eighth notes.
Divide by four to get sixteenth notes.
Divide by eight to get thirty-second notes.

So if your MIDI resolution is 120, divide by 8 to get 8 thirty-second notes at bar:beat:ticks (using bar 3, beat 2 as an example) every 15 ticks:

3:2:0
3:2:15
3:2:30
3:2:45
3:2:60
3:2:75
3:2:90
3:2:105

So if your MIDI resolution is 3840, divide by 8 to get 8 thirty-second notes at bar:beat:ticks (using bar 3, beat 2 as an example) every 480 ticks:

3:2:0
3:2:480
3:2:960
3:2:1440
3:2:1920
3:2:2400
3:2:2880
3:2:3360

Could you create the track at a slow speed using 16ths the double the speed and render it. Then bring the song in at the desired speed and add the rendered part. Or even just save the midi track and bring it back in. I had to do the opposite recently when I had created a midi part for a song as an ev16, I then recently redid the song in BIAB using ev8 and had to rejig the original midi part to fit as it played twice as fast.

Just a thought

Tony

It's also possible to enter smaller note values using Piano Roll.

I have only just had a look at the BB piano roll today. I find it a lot more difficult than the piano roll on the daw I'm used to.

Noel
Also today I had a listen to the 2013 song you were a part of. It was really good.

Tony,

The Piano Roll mode in BIAB is well worth persevering with. It's very powerful. For note entry, I particularly like that it can create predefined note lengths (including triplets) and then snap the notes to a grid (again of predetermined spacing). I've found Piano Roll mode a great asset over the years.

Thank you for having a listen to one of the songs I was involved with. Appreciate it smile

All the best,
Noel

Have a look at the image below. Snap to grid is contolled by the 'Snap' options (#1).

Also, if you click on 'Help' (#2) it will explain how to use it in greater detail.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
