Hi,

I was looking at the (options, preferences, text hints) section to try and figure out which of the four checkboxes I might uncheck to turn off the "better real tracks hints" or any hints that come up when I first start a song. The only popup I want is the popup that tells me I have to hit the spacebar to start the song as a result of my checking the checkbox "Pause Play Until MIDI or Key received". So I did a help search "hints" and was presented with a lot of reading of topics that is not remotely related. I tried "hints summary" and found nothing in that reading material. I don't suppose anyone knows how to keep the "Pause Play Until MIDI or Key received" popup while suppressing all other less important hints. I am using this "Pause Play Until MIDI or Key received" as a way to know the real tracks have been built rather than having to watch all the stuff that is flying by fast at the top. Its too bad some hints could not be moved to the end of the song :-)

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

You need "Options | Preferences | Realtracks" and then to deactivate the checkboxes I've shown on the the image below.

Thanks Noel. That's interesting. I will make that change on my notebook. I am curious. I have never tried it but I am assuming that auto means if I click on that message it automatically does the substitution. If this is true is the auto substitution smart enough to keep the same number of instruments (same number of tracks) when doing that substitution (I always choose a style with at least a quartet or larger with piano-and-guitar or guitar-and-guitar). I am asking because maybe I could leave it on for none live use (my desktop) and turn it off for live use (my notebook). Right now it only popups up on maybe 2 or 3 of the 70 BIAB files I have and I can't remember which ones they are.

Hi John,

As I understand it, the substitution is done on a track by track basis. This means the number of instruments will remain constant.

If you see a track with ~ in front of its name in the mixer, this means that there is a better Realtrack available given the song's tempo but no substitution has occurred.

If you see ~~ in front of the track's name, this means that the 'better' track has been substituted.

And yes, clicking on the message will substitute the Realtracks (well it did in 2017, I haven't yet tried it in 2018).

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel. Just by chance I had BIAB up and for the first time after your pointing it out I noticed that there are two tracks that have the ~~ in front of the track description. So I guess I must have saved the BIAB file and it kept those tracks with the markers. All this time I thought clicking on the message was telling it I didn't want to make a change and if I wanted the change I had to go in to the style picker and pick a new style.

Cheers!
John

On a related issue, why do I sometimes get 2, 3 or even 4 "playback paused......." yellow flags instead of just one? It seems to happen when I play a song more than once.

Clicking on the popup does not seem to work for getting the real tracks more suited to the speed. I found the solution by googling "FInding the best band in a box real tracks". Finally google worked for BIAB :-)

Tony, BIAB 2018 introduced seeing multiple yellow, yellow-green and green messages like never before. I do think there is a limit of four or five, don't remember which one it is that someone said. And you can turn off the appearance of these messages, although I don't recommend doing so.

I would guess, given it's a new feature, PG Music would be receptive to a post in the Wishlist Forum with suggestions about how you think these messages should appear.

Actually, I was wrong about BIAB not auto fixing the real tracks. I had the "Options, Preferences, Allow Auto-realtracks Substitution based upon tempo" turned off on my notebook machine where as my desktop had it turned on. I was confusing the settings across machines. I just turned it back on for the notebook since now I practice the jam session operation and repertoire a week in advance.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
