I sometimes think it's a shame that Powertracks gets over-shadowed by BiaB and Realband.
It's such a good program and it's where I started out with PG products over twenty years ago, so
still in my back-to-basics mode, I gave the Realtracks and expensive plugins a miss this time and
did all the recording and masterering in Powertracks, to see what could be done for only $49.

Effects - Only PG's DXi effects were used.
Guitars - Telecaster, through a Peavey Backstage 50
Bass - Jazz, through a 70s British Carlsboro head
Drums - Drum Source sample player.
Vocals - SM57.

So here it is - a fun bit of raw punk-rock.

WHEN ALL THE TRUST HAS GONE
I thought my baby loved me, but I didn't understand
That all the time she lived with me she loved another man
I asked for reassurance, hoped that nothing had gone wrong
And she said - "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..."
But when all the trust has gone, that changes everything.

I thought I'd play it clever, so I got a private eye
I told him my suspicions and he said he'd have a try
He took lots of my money, then he said "There's nothing wrong"
And I said "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..."
But when all the trust has gone, that changes everything.

I thought I'd do this thing myself and turn into a spy
It turned out that the man she loved was only the private eye
I caught them both together and I said "Tell me just how long"
And she said - "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..."
But when all the trust has gone, that changes everything.

Many thanks, as usual, to everyone who gives it a listen.

Cheers, ROG.

Amazing what you can do with so little.... I loved the style you played this in and the guitar solo mid-song. I kind of got a Traveling Wilburys kind of vibe from that one. Thanks!

Very cool song Rog. Super backtrack. Excellent vocal and loved the harmonines. Very cool lyrics. Guitar was just perfect for the song. Super tone and loved your phrasing. Loved the different colors you were getting out the tele...

Sounds good - clearly it is the talent behind the DAW rather than the software....

This is really, really good. I am trying to place who it reminds me of and it is not Tom Petty, and not Bob Dylan, but someone else..maybe Ry Cooder.

Anyway, this is just 100% pure fun rock and roll fun.

It proves that back to basics usually means back to good!

Wow! Great write, vocal, yeahs, guitar solos, production, arrangement, vibe. Definitely worth the price of admission. You clearly know how to move those fingers and twist those knobs in order to get “that sound”. It has such presence. It sure does catch your ear and makes you want to listen again and again. Great work, Tom

ROG,

You've done it again! As Tom so accurately said,

You've definitely got the knack for creating entertainment. I really enjoyed this a great deal. The lyrics are so very visual and everything about the presentation gleams with expertise. I found myself imagining one of your animated chalk drawings as I listened to the unfolding story of unrequited love, lust and betrayal!

All the best,
Noel

Great set of lyrics to accompany an also very great song.

You've demonstrated the versatility that can be achieved with some very creative writing.

I'll piggyback on Tom's comment, too...

What a great sound! A stunning mix.

The bass is superb. The guitars are all excellent. The drums sound live. The vocal sits PERFECTLY.

The lead is exceptional - very musical.

This has the energy of a live KINKS set.

Love it! Top shelf.

Fabuloso!! The "feel" reminded me of a cross between The Beatles "She's A Woman" and the Stones "This Will Be The Last Time". Yep - I AM that old!
However, the tune and the lyrics are great. Despite the "adultery", they are quite humorous. Made ME laugh anyway.
Stonking beat to it and good to hear that Tele working for a living. Gotta be on 10s to get that end bend, or you have fingers of steel. And its good to know that some people are still using the old Peavey Backstagers.
Superb mix too.
Really enjoyed it, Rog.
Cheers

Hi Greg.
The DXi effects often get over-looked in favour of proprietary plugins with fancier graphics, but they are actually really good quality. The reverb, in particular, is excellent if you're prepared to experiment with the settings, rather than just staying with the pre-sets.
Glad you enjoyed the song. I had a lot of fun putting it together, especially the yeahs.
Many thanks for the listen and review.
Cheers, ROG.

Hi Steve,
I've always loved the Wilbury's stuff, so very happy with that.
I've been using Powertracks for so long now that it's become so easy to work with and I even find myself mixing in Powertracks when I've recorded in Realband. Old habits and all that...
Many thanks for the review.

Beatles, Stones, Cooder, Wilburys, whatever...it had Janice singing along before the end of the first verse and continuing afterwards smile

I’m not even aware of Powertracks and what can be done with it or them. So I can forget that and just comment on just how strong the song is.

The melody sticks with you - easy to say but not easy to write. Your fine vocal, equally fine guitar, great lyric and the punchy mix are along with the melody just continues to invite one back for another listen. And that is what we’re gonna do.

Fun!

I really enjoyed the use of the yeah yeah yeah coming in (someone already said it) but also your voice is kind of like a compilation of rock history.
