Hi Bob, I have two PCs both running Windows 10 with the last update to Win 10 1709 one PC a 32 bit laptop seems fine but I do less with it. The other a 64 bit PC I use setup the music files I use on the laptop. I did have issues with stuttering etc. it improved after reloading drivers. The other day Mario mentioned that Windows may restart the onboard audio driver which was supposedly turned off in my case. I checked and both the onboard and usb devices were turned on. This was not something I expected nor requested and to my knowledge the first time this has happened. Since shutting the extra device driver things in my case have been fine. I do put this down to updates. Updates not just for security but added software that allow me to do stuff I don't want in the first place.

Tony

I wouldn’t be too hard. I understood his sound to be squirrelly and blurred.

It's really odd, as sometimes I can use my M-Audio Keyrig in biab and other times it's dead. Wonder could the keyboard be on its' way out ? IT IS showing up in the biab set up dialog.
I have the same problem using the reason vst synth as well AND east west play

The keyboard is at least 6 years old and has had a lot of use. I've re-installed the drivers, no change, so next step is to replace the usb cable. If that fails, time for a new one

Graham, with such a nebulous problem, it is hard to help. Could we drop back a step and have you tell us EVERYTHING about your computer and setup? Hardware and software. Also summarize whatever problems you have recently experienced, as clearly as possible. Then perhaps something will stand out.

Johnny cash wrote a song about the guy who built a car by stealing parts from the plant over the course of his time working there. That's pretty much where we are in the era of home computers.

My intention now is to keep my stuff in the woodshed and not connect to the internet. simply make the best of what I have bought. I did use an android phone tethered to the pc when downloading some notation, and that avoided any windows upgrading quite nicely.

By the time the guarantee runs out on the new PC (2 years) I might have got to grips with biab 2017, propeller head and such and review where I am. But I wish I had kept some of my old kit because I could still be using it far more effectively. I will try to resist that all enticing download, as it often brings a whole lot more than you expect.

Using: Dell 3268 i3, 8 GB ram, windows 10. Biab version 2017 standard package, no extras.

I reckon it must be the keyboard as it was working earlier. Went out for a while and not a peep from it again.

Another thing I've noticed, on asio and mme there's a fair latency between hitting the note and the sound. Never had that till recently either

Some more info, playback seems to be fine even on the east west play. Biggest issue just now is using the keyboard, which is a USB M-Audio Keyrig49. As I pointed out, the weird thing is that it'll play perfectly through reason 3.

What drivers is Reason using for the keyboard (MIDI)?

Did PGMusic products maybe revert to MIDI Mapper or something?
Can you make them match?

Make your sound your own!

Behringer U-PHORIA UMC204HD Drivers. Biab DOES revert back to midi mapper every time I restart the programme. I have to go into options each time. I tried uninstalling the latest windows update and stopping the downloads from computer management, but it downloaded itself again straight afterwards. Everything worked well after the uninstall so it IS a windows problem so how in the hell do I sort it ?

Graham,

If BIAB is not remembering your settings, it sounds like you don't run it in Administrator Mode.

To set administrator mode, rightclick on the startup shortcut, select properties, then, under the COMPATIBILITY TAB, activate the "Run as as admin" option.

BIAB and RB need to be run as administrator. (This is completely different from you logging into Windows as the admin of your computer when you start it up.)

Noel

Did all you suggested Noel and it didn't work. No keyboard sound at all in biab, every other programme works fine

Graham, have you DLed the latest drivers from Behringer and installed them via their instructions. Be sure to delete the old drivers first. Note that some companies want the unit connected via USB while others do not.

Also has their been a firmware update to it?

I'm grabbing at straws here.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Your post said Windows was the problem. Now it’s BIAB. Graham, I’m not spending any more time on this unless we have a sound recording of the problem, lists or screenshots of your BIAB sound settings, and a complete description of your computer.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
